shorts are down, best news I've heard today after the trash in the press over the weekend!

Yes this is what im trying to fish out, as to whether we could see a genuine change in this share over the next few weeks. IMO the short sellers have total control over this share at the moment, but if there was the possibility of a CVA Odey would need to change the position

tu-chuzey, I genuinely believe that some of the previous articles have played into the hands of the likes of Odey and also possibly come from the same source, but with this one it could have a positive effect on the SP so im not so certain. this is why I have been raising this debate all day on the board

nezlob, I might be wrong and I know all of this is purely speculation at the moment until we get a management update but I feel like this CVA speculation could have come straight out of MA's mouth. I also think if the board give an update that they were going to consider this (this is all hypothetical at this point), then it would show the further influence Mike Ashley has gained after successfully ousting the chairman and pushing the CEO to the side lines. I don't think any of this would necessarily be bad news as it would reduce the hold the short sellers have on this sp with a potential genuine upside

LSE2000, you do realize that the majority of people on this board will be relatively small traders and therefore have little influence on the SP? to deliberately tell people to top up when you are expecting a fall is just stitching up a small trader with no gain for yourself on the SP

@ profit, ive been in and out of this share for the last few months and ive watched the same trading cycles due to short selling. That's the reason im expecting this to drop below 3.30p this week and unfortunately as soon as lse2000 starts telling everyone to hold or buy it usually means the opposite!

that's a good point on the use of the threat of a CVA on upcoming negotiations. I'm wondering how much more open the new chairman is to Mike Ashleys ideas than the previous one, in the sense of threatening the CVA to strengthen their position at the very least

@dipyourbreadin: My thinking is similar on the upside for the SP with a bumpy road inbetween

nezlob; Im pretty sure that a CVA has to be voted through by a share holder majority and given the power Mike Ashley has exerted with teaming up with other holders and getting the chariman kicked off the board and Sergio gives me cause for concern. I've been in a few board meetings and I'm trying to imagine the atmosphere after that's just happened among other board members.

I know at this point nothing is confirmed on the CVA, but im trying to predict the potential effect on the share price if a CVA is voted through the board and if Landlords were then to agree to revised terms. I don't think a CVA is necessarily a bad thing for the SP given the mothercare example.

Funnily enough the telegraph has also been involved in a few damning stories on metro bank which is also being heavily shorted through Odey, who I believe has a similar volume of shares on loan in Debenhams and metro bank

@n1shares I agree that Debenhams is undervalued but have you looked through all the news articles this morning?
I don't pay much attention when it comes from a source like drapers but a CVA does look more likely. I don't see this as a bad thing though, as it could give Debenhams a lot more power to negotiate. If im totally honest about it Im going to buy in around 3p but a smaller stake as I don't trust Mike Ashley being so close to the negotiations and how he may use the situation to his benefit

I think this share price is going to be a rollercoaster as this situation develops, but I don't believe administration is a risk, but this is my opinion.

@sainvision: you want to reduce exposure when the mothercare SP doubled?

Would be great to here some genuine counter arguments for a strong rise in this SP if Share holders firstly agree to the CVA and then landlords agree to new terms!!!!!!!!!!

while upside and kingle battle to the death has anybody else got any thoughts on the SP as the CVA becomes a clear option?

What about the comparison to mothercare for instance where the share price rocketed or how Homebase has played out trying to transform their estate?

My personal view is that Mike Ashley is gunning for the CVA to use it as a tool against the landlords and surely if they can offload some of the toxic rental agreements this has to be good for the share price longterm.

I would welcome any counter arguments on this view as it seems today we have a genuine development rather speculation

the real question for me is what is mike ashleys strategy? To get a CVA approved they need a majority shareholder approval. I'm wondering how mike Ashley is going to use this to his advantage holding 30% of the stock?

yes fingers crossed mr jones for a late rally! 1150 plus would be a good start for next week. if it makes you feel any better im expecting Debenhams back to 3.30 next week

can't see it breaking 4p anytime soon but fair play if it is does. Id put the low at between 3p to 3.20p next week

mr jones I think 1150 isn't too much of a big ask, but 1200 will be next week. It also looks like Debenhams isn't going anywhere soon either
