wondering if this is on the back of some positive news soon to emerge

The key linchpin in all this for me is the new chairman Terry Duddy. I see a stand off between Mike Ashley and his allies that sacked the previous Chairman, unless Terry Duddy is sympathetic to Mike ashleys position and is willing to give him a pay off in the form of a debt for equity swap.

Does anybody know if Mike Ashley and Terry Duddy have previously worked together or have any kind of history?

KingleK; Given that Mike Ashley is as tight as a ducks ar@e, do you not think the debt for equity swap is a much greater possibility as he will pretty much take control of the business covertly at a knock off price? I think the CVA and debt for equity swap speculation is being driven by him.

I love the way the press spin it: 'mike Ashley walked away from the talks'. no he didn't, he got rejected because he wanted to put in a silly offer with fairy land terms

so why has the bank lent to them?

Ive been involved in a few finance deals, although Im based on the property side of the business and given the amount of hoops, stress testing and covenants we have to jump through to get lesser amounts that doesn't add up to me that Debenhams doesn't have any equity. All the banks ive dealt with are so risk adverse in the current climate

nohearts; im all for a balanced view but your posts are ridiculously skewed. If Debenhams was worthless the bank would not have offered a 40 million loan and neither would Ashley.

nohearts: so with all the talk of dilution are you saying that the current market cap is correct or does the current cap reflect everything you just put in that post? meaning the dilution has already been factored into the share price

the 40 million bridging loan is exactly that, until the CVA and debt for equity swap go through. Having already signed a non disclosure agreement I believe mike Ashley will get a considerable lump of shares out of it and at that point he will release the grip and let the price rise. On top of that once a CVA and realistic restructuring plan is backed up by financing it will attract the attention of larger investors

the bottom line for me is that the main shareholders mike Ashley and his sidekicks that booted out the chairman are not going to sign up to any further share dilution. yes they will take a debt for equity swap and yes they are pushing for a cva to reduce the rents.

One thing also worth noting is that Mike Ashley has already signed a non disclosure agreement in preparation for the deal so you will probably notice he isn't so gobby in the next few weeks and gets his pay off in the form of the debt for equity swap.

have you researched any of the recent CVA's and the result on the share price?

22tmf; so if Debenhams announce a CVA over the next few weeks which transforms the rental costs you don't think the share price will go up? Think I will hold for now!
