I'm a holder and I've come back to this board after a few weeks and cant believe how much influence the shorters have taken hold. The SP is at a ridiculously low price given the circumstances and to sell now would be crazy.
The few hundred million cash call is a drop in the ocean compared to the loan book and the potential expansion of metro bank over the next couple of years

trying to turn the discussion back to a sensible level; surely the question has to be what is mike Ashley going to offer the share holders in the scheduled meeting to convince them to take him on rather than the 150 million loan offered by Debenhams existing management?

Whether Ashley gains share holder backing is going to be crucial in so many ways

Spot on Kamikazee. this situation is forcing MA's hand. he either makes a bid or misses out. I personally, and this is my opinion don't think MA was ever as concerned about former bids on companies like patisserie valerie as he is Debenhams. Mike Ashley's ego is pushing him to want to the next Philip Green (without the assault claims). With Debs and HOF he can dominate the high street with the newly combined madhouse.

franalex; there have been previous detailed posts on this thread giving detailed reports that there are a good amount of cash generating stores if the plan to close 50 is implemented, along with a growing online business and a profitable oversees business. This is why the banks are willing to lend the money in the first place; A point I have been reiterating on this thread for some time

smartie if you don't start relating your trades to the state of play you are going to lose money. The short position relies on uncertainty. the Debenhams position is closing in that respect, where as metro bank already needs to make one cash call, but the speculation is that they will need to make a second

smartie it sounds like you are trying a one man campaign to reduce the sp to 3p again but I cant see that happening. you might get lucky before april though. To be honest I think you would have less risk trying to buy low with metro bank which is being heavily shorted. Sainsburys was a bad idea!

Auson; the article reports from an internal source that they intend to have credit insurance restored with a larger borrowing facility. it also says that this is close to completion.

Considering how bearish the FT have previously been over Debenhams this is strong change in tone. It also makes sense that mike Ashley knows how close they are to achieving this and is trying to delay proceedings

Auson; if you read financial times article it clearly states they intend to borrow enough to reinstate their credit insurance!

franalex; you seem to be missing the fundamental point here; they will not be insolvent if they have agree a much larger borrowing facility and implement the restructuring plan

smartie, if you really think that's a possibility at this stage you are probably going to lose more money. If you did sell everything last week you will be faced with a rising entry point, which gets more tricky for a day trader. I don't necessarily think it will go crazy on Wednesday as the financial times gives Ashley until mid april to delay the refinancing, but I do believe its going to rise significantly by mid april

Franalex, I think you are a few weeks behind current developments. insolvency and administration are no longer a possibility. If the Debenhams board are confident they can go after a much larger loan (financial times words not mine), then it limits Ashleys possibilities. we are getting to the thin end of the wedge, he has tried to delay the refinancing with trying to oust the board but I cant see that move getting through on a regulatory basis. so what is he left with? make a bid or wait a few years to get a profit on his 200 million which I don't see happening

If you read the financial times article yesterday it might help you out with a few pointers on way Mike Ashley does intend to throw more money at this business; Primarily because the article clearly states that Debenhams are going for a much larger loan to lock Ashley out completely
