Just back from a 10 day trip to France including Paris and Reims/Epernay dodging rioters and tasting Champagne and Mon dieu c’est tres tres très intéressant !!

The old adage has been followed by a few today I see .. buy on the rumour .. sell on the news. Suggested a fall today was possible when I posted first thing this morning. However with the drill well under way I’m sure “rumour” will start to dominate again tomorrow or Thursday and we’ll sail past 15p again and then 25p in the lead up to the next news.

Market behaviour is often bazaar .. a small drop “on the news” is quite possible this morning! I’ve given up trying to call the market hence my plan to sell a 1/3 once I have trebled my initial investment!!

HighlandMatt based on previous experience of investing I plan to sell 1/3 at 25p (bought at 8p) and hold 2/3 on a “free ride”; works for me but everyone has a different risk profile.

Let’s hope so!

Uncosted .. not quite. Increasing the annual tax free allowance to 18,500 would cost about 50 billion; the government pays out 80 billion in tax credits already so that’s a starter. Taxes on what I call passive income (capital gains, gifts, lottery wins etc) would more than cover abolition of CGT and IHT. Increasing tax on dividends (and taxing dividends like any other income instead of at special reduced rates) would cover lost Corporation Tax revenue (my suggestion is that Companies only pay tax when they distribute profits as dividends -as they do in Estonia) etc etc.

It is an ironic statement of intent that the Govt is scrapping the Office of Tax Simplification although it has never achieved anything in its short history. But frankly no Govt of any shade or description have a clue what they are doing at the moment!

I’d say an annual tax free allowance if 18,500 per person (1800 hours x £10.40) was very much helping the lower paid! Currently they pay 20% IT and 12% NI on income above 12,570!! My suggestion was 30% IT and no NI on income above 18,500.

I believe income should be divided between active income (employment, self employment, dividends etc) and passive income (capital gains, gifts received, lottery wins etc).

There should be a nil rate tax band for everyone set at the living wage x a full working year (eg 1800 hours) paid for for by dramatically reducing working tax credits.

National insurance CGT and inheritance tax should be abolished.

All income of all types above the annual threshold should be taxed at 30% and anything over 100,000 at 40% and anything over 250,000 at 50%.

Companies should only be taxed when they distribute profits so if they retain and reinvest their profits they pay no tax.

Agree ParrotTalk re numbers! Just copied and pasted but illustrates the point that many are still outstanding and few are rejected.

I have written to Tim and asked if he could confirm if our application was invalid, rejected or pending? I know it’s probably irrelevant now but I’m fed up with government incompetence!

Although irrelevant now I have received a reply from MHRA re FOI request re CTA approvals as follows; information as at end April 2023

Between July 28, 2022 and April 26, 2023 - A total of 723 applications were received; 651 of which were valid applications for assessment.

Between July 28, 2022 and April 26, 2023 – 252 applications were approved

Between July 28, 2022 and April 26, 2023 – 14 applications were rejected

Between July 28, 2022 and April 26, 2023 – 346 applications were pending, where the MHRA had not issued a final decision

No idea where SAR sat in this line but would very much hope they were not one of the small number of rejections (ie 14).

Without seeing an official response from MHRA actually formally rejecting SAR’s application yes I would be very sceptical of the ministers response. Economy with the truth is a massive problem at the moment and it’s getting worse.

Ref Will Quince’s statement that SAR’s CTA had been rejected frankly I wouldn’t believe him unless I was also given a copy of MHRA’s official rejection letter. My own experience of dealing with MP’s, Ministers, Local Councillors and other government bodies is that they are utterly useless and totally untrustworthy which is a terrible indictment of the current state of our politics but it’s where we are! 😢
