Similar issue there and they did say private equity had made enquiries. I assume talks are progressing even if nothing may come of it.
I would think a similar thing will unfold here. At these bargain valuations it is not a surprise that private equity firms smell a kill. All good for us holders.
Expect those currently short to increase the fear index. All part of self preservation.

I hate non holders spending endless time posting negative messages repeatedly, but random claims of takeover news is not helpful either IMO. Atb

This is terrible for the poor people of Ukraine, but BP is not in the firing line here. Sanctions on Russia will just mean there will be restrictions on what they do economically with the west. The East remains open for business to them and why Putin is not too concerned.
I will not venture into the political arena or offer opinions regarding this, but those hoping for a sell off in BP shares is incorrect in my view. POO and buybacks will keep the SP healthy. IMO.

People actually bothering to spend time telling me they are going to sell. why would you? if you were going to sell, the last thing you would want is to create panic and lower the price you could sell at. Nowt stranger then folk probably sums it up.

Alex, good post and I agree. Plenty of co-ordinated trolls about even here and reduces chat utility for most of us PI's who frequent these to discuss pros and cons. BOO has become infected by a lot of nonsensical repetitive chat to be useful. Lets hope they move on to other prey soon.
I too agree with the short term nature of a lot of holders - probably reflecting the modern world and needing instant gratification. Investing is a medium to longer term vehicle. Most see themselves as traders and the fee free platforms encourage this. No such thing as a free meal however - as the platforms use your shares to lend out to those shorting.
The thing that really bothers me is- the investment platforms know investment data in real time so can exactly and effectively manipulate this to open and close short positions using shares owned by the investors themselves - with high functioning algos in place - they could be doing this whilst sipping ****tails on a beach getting richer by the second while we wonder how all our careful research went wrong. Hope someday this practice is investigated, but I am probably deluding myself as they are all in bed together in this scam IMO.

Those selling are helping BP buyback lower. All good and those cashing into lock on profits are entitled to.
I'm staying put.
Buybacks will mop up cheaper shares anyway. Imagine an investment company with a couple of billion to spend on BP? That's not that different to the company buying back except better as there will be fewer shares to divide future dividends by.
Selling now IMO is probably premature. Dyor etc

Emerald sold a few weeks ago if I remember. Tbh, I'd be feeling a bit peeved too if I had on the hope SP would fall.

By the time we plebs find out, they've usually done their worst already. Shorts increasing on the 9th is probably why we had that sudden drop to 85. The fact that its recovered is a fantastic sign and there will be a lot of sweat being generated be the person who authorised the extra shorts. They do get it wrong at times, and spectacularly so. Don't bet against shorts closing sharpish IMO.

Thank goodness for a better end. This morning was brutal and shows how the market (and some hired posters) can cause mayhem. I waited for the upswing before I added so only managed to get some at 90, but glad I did. Lets hope this show gets back on the road and the shorters move on. ATB

Exactly, all profit will need to be taxed. Windfall tax on AZ? Why stop here....we may as well turn into a communist state and take over all private enterprises!

I am really amazed by the gloomy chat after a slight re-trace. Profit taking is totally ok if that is what is the aim. Hope you have some place good to re-invest.
I'm staying put. Share buybacks pretty much guarantee an upwards trend IMO. I personally quite like the strategy adopted here as I am here for the medium term at least. ATB all departing shareholders.

Hotmess, no one has a crystal ball but your average will be much better than most holders. There is nothing so far to suggest BOO are in financial trouble. Which means once current headwinds pass, this will recover. My bet is sooner rather than later. I'm a recent entrant and I'm down a tad too. I'm not fussed as I'm pretty sure this will rebound quickly having done my DD before buying in. If it drops I'll be adding more as I'm happy to wait for a while if need be.

Muted and mostly focussed on buybacks and debt reduction. Excellent. Will keep the special tax wolves at bay even if they will keep snapping from a distance for a while. Nothing to see here type report which I am happy with. Divi mostly same is fine really considering the SP rise more than compensates us for now. ATB
