One other, and vitally important thing I forgot to mention. If you read the statement through it mentions reducing the hours within the workforce. This is not a reference to the 35 hour week that all posties will be working in the next two years...but in fact a reduction in the amount of agency staff required. This will amount to massive savings!! Royal Mail spends millions upon millions of pounds every year upon agency wages; this is due, in part, to the "stone-age" method of parcel sorting (by hand mostly). Obviously: more automation -- less need for casual parcel sorters. Massive savings here...and you can trust me on that one.

I agree with your sentiment regarding the CWU, HeresHopin...it is going to be a major obstacle; the CWU are already gearing up for another fight. See: "emergency motion" from their May convention; its available to view on their website. However, regarding the workforce: automation will obviously go hand in hand with (1) voluntary redundancy, (2) early retirement through sickness and ill health, (3) many, in an aging workforce, attaining natural retirement age, (4) the weeding out of the long term malingerers, work-shy and idlers who think their employer owes them a living, (5) the luxury of having to employ less people (in processing anyway) as automation starts to dictate. So on this point, HeresHopin, I somewhat disagree with you. I think this is excellent news from the Royal Mail this morning. Yes, the road ahead is not without pitfalls...and there will be major setbacks from time to time. But five years from now all of this will be a distant memory...and the patient ones will be rewarded handsomely!

For most of us that have been investing in Royal Mail for at least a year now we are well underwater on this one...apart from the more cautious, experienced and wiser investor that is; good luck to them all -- they have bought in at the perfect time! It bothers me though not a jot...as you say, Pokerchips, the city only seems to mostly concern itself with present fundamentals...not so much a company's longer term perceived potential. The Royal Mail is a sleeping giant now awakened. With its unrivaled network, soon to be made even more efficient, it has the potential (barring confrontation with a belligerent CWU leadership...a mighty big "maybe", that, I might add) to become a truly formidable delivery service unequaled by none. I thoroughly commend this to the house, ladies and gentlemen...truly, in five years time, you just cannot lose.

Ah, of course: "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant...and fill him with a terrible resolve"!!! If I was shorting this right now...I would be giving serious consideration to closing my position somewhat. As for the five year strategy, it could not have been better conceived regarding upping their game in the all important parcels sector: a fleet of smaller vans for next day and under 24 hour delivery, delivering both letters and smaller parcels simultaneously, 80% automation (parcel sorting machines) in the next five years, three new parcel hubs (Warrington to be operational, perhaps, by late August of this year), collecting "returns" from the customers homes, 1400 new parcel boxes. All of this and more to name just a few of the many excellent and innovative ideas now unveiled by the Royal Mail. Well done Rico Back -- we have the right man at the helm!!

As per usual, and both predictable and inevitable, panic has now set in; support at the 0.73 pence level has been continually pecked at over the last several hours...if it does'nt hold around here -- then next stop 0.67 pence! Personally, I think the apparent much perceived gloom and doom concerning IQE's so called "over exposure" in the ensuing trade war is over touted. Yes, it is bound to have some effect...but a drop to this extent? Why the panic?

I will be surprised to see this "bounce" in the present circumstances...why would it? I was also rather mystified and surprised at the opening price of 0.87 pence. But as you say, Gotrader: "who knows"? I have to agree with seadoc on this one: 0.66 pence is looming; after that 0.56 pence looks about right as its next usual support level. However, one does have to bear in mind one thing: just as this trade war has quickly escalated -- it can just as fast be resolved!

I have bought, and sold, and bought back in again several times with IQE over the last few years...it is always the same. The share price responds to a few positive RNS's...makes nice, steady gains over several days...stalls for about the same period...and then drops back. I was going to sell (yet again) at 94 pence (nice tidy little profit) but do you know what? Just got bored with it all! The truth of the matter is this: yes, IQE is a fantastic project with highly intelligent people at the helm...but does it yet have world-wide firmly established markets? Certainly not. Because if it was indeed a "world leader" the share price would not be where it is. Even at £1.30 a share, that hardly smacks of world domination does it? IQE is, all things remaining equal, going to be a fantastic investment for the future. The future though, for IQE, is just not quite here at this moment. And those busily shorting it know it too.

Been pondering that question for a couple of weeks myself, Gotrader. IQE might benefit from any sanctions Trump imposes upon the Chinese...who really knows? However, the UK might be obliged to go down the same road. You cannot have a world super power like China creating and imposing a colossal hegemony underpinned totally by, almost, what is akin to slave labor. India and the Tiger economies have seen the sense in increasing wages: it creates more lasting benefits for their own peoples and promotes less discord and, at the same time, much more positive drive and ambition. Time for China to accept all of this. Trump is right! It has to start somewhere...and we have to be broad-minded enough to support him...however painful in the short term.

Obviously we will all be happy if the dividend is maintained...well, up to August at least. But is it sustainable? Probably not. And that is money (if the dividend is cut later on in the year) that might be better spent elsewhere: transformation costs for instance.

Ah well...I have my answer: panic has set in. Think I will hold myself. Errr, SlowRoll...are you and your mate endowed with physic powers? Or are you just both full of cr@p?

There is no security risk involved...they are built like nuclear bunkers. Also, this is not a first: Amazon have been using this system for several years; Royal Mail, as is the norm these days, unfortunately, is playing "catch-up" here. But good on you, Rico Back -- another positive move forward!!

Yes indeed....this s.p is crazy right now. Up or down...you cannot really lose with this stock at the present moment; if it does drop even further - just buy more! It might, in the very extreme (but I doubt it) drop close to £2.00...in that case I will be gearing up to buy a bucket load.

Correct, ARSENAL17...the one thing the shorters cannot account for: what Rico Back will announce in the fast approaching Capital Markets day. The analysts always get a little whisper (insider info) about the financials...but the battle plans are a well guarded secret privy to very few; very rarely divulged due to the relative ease of pointing the finger to the person that has foolishly done so.

Personally I could not give a tinkers toss if they dropped to £2.00 a share...because just like everyone else with any sense I would be buying them all the way down. And why not? At that price you would be practically giving them away! We are not talking about some two-penny company here on a terminal decline...we are talking about an enormous juggernaut with a vast and established network. Yes, the profit decline is good news for the shorters...but it is also good news for those of us who hold a moderately long term outlook; plus of course a decent dividend even if cut by 50% or so. I guess we all win, Mr Falkland: you make your big short...and we mop up the "giveaway shares". Happy days!!!

This is a nice surprise...although not completely unexpected. I believe there will be good news coming next week concerning Royal Mails newly proposed parcel hub network; I am informed the one at Warrington is just one of four. Sounds encouraging!

To be perfectly honest, Redceo, I have no idea what the share price, obviously, will be in the months to come; on the back of positive news next week I could envision a bounce back up to the mid £2.60s...but would it be sustainable? I just would'nt know. We all seem to be in concord about one thing though: in the long term -- you just cannot lose here! Apart from the appalling thought of any industrial action that is - Gulp!!!

I don't think this share price will be £4.00 plus in the next couple of months...highly unlikely. The years figures, to be released next week, are anticipated to be rather poor...the forecast by the markets is freely available if you search around. I would suggest you will have to wait at least three years to see the s.p really take off; you cannot lose here buying at these prices even if the s.p drops another 5 - 10% over the coming weeks.
