If the chancellor can save several billions then what's the problem - as I stick my neck out and say, as long as they choose RR for SMR!

As the article says, "However, the nascent technology remains commercially unproven, with a string of European countries and the US all currently pursuing their own individual competitions to fund the first examples of the technology." So, why spend double if you can get a solution for half the (current) budgeted spend?

We should have faith in RR's SMR solution...!

Hi Ramon, yes I can see he may have been embarrassed by that - he over egged it, but the whims of politicians are outside of his control... that said, he could at least be communicating something and perhaps an apology to all concerned and set out what they are now doing and what (if any impact) this has on the project. [but I'm sure they have to be careful as they work out how to deal with the new government].

Just frustrating, as we all know - and I wonder how low the sp might go. It's on a downward trend (albeit slow) right now.

And why has he been incommunicado - because he’s busy looking for other opportunities?

He says April for Rat - but given they were so bullish last time I'll take that with a large pinch of (Li) salt - and though he thinks the new government understands the market/price situation (so 10% cut is max), it still sounds like it's being discussed as to what the new terms, and they may be tiered based on spod price seems he suggests.

I'd say such discussions will take a month or two [...in (Ghana) parliamentary time?!] thus April is far too optimistic. Let's say a month at least for any new deal details to be agreed with ALL, another month for deal details published and then publicly discussed/teeth-gnashed by the opposition and the media], then parliament get round to ratification. Not sure which parliamentary session - into July (again)?!

So, LP, do you think there will be no revisions to the deal? NDC are happy with the current one, they see no need to change anything, and we are simply waiting for the ratification to be scheduled in parliament?

If NDC are planning to change terms then why would they ratify the licence? Sure they can proceed separately but if the NDC think there is a better deal for Ghana then I can’t see why they will be in any rush to ratify, that’s good leverage. First they will “re-negotiate”, I’ve no idea of that time-line and I’ve no idea when rat will take place after that. And the parliamentary diary seems rather opaque.

They have a great resource and being invested I want to see a great return (and not be 60% down) - but I am wary of wishful thinking. Let’s be realistic (which is sometimes hard to accept).

How long will it take for the Ghanaian majority to set out their new deal? Weeks? Months? Have they already consulted all they wish to consult - local to npational?

How long for ALL to agree? A week or three or more?

Both sides agree. Then ratification in parliament… maybe it will be quicker this time around.

Seems to me it won’t be this session. We’re nearly half way through Feb.

But we are here and ever hopeful.

With that December press release by the party now in charge, they seem in no rush to ratify the mining licence.

And given what we’ve seen in the Ghanaian parliament, they will take their own merry time to come up with a new deal - which ALL will have to agree to, I mean “negotiated”.

Ratification is therefore some time off (months?).

I am sure it will be ratified (in a timescale that suits parliament) - and only once a new deal is done. But who knows how long that will take. A month or two perhaps? Meetings at local level? Meeetings at national level? New proposal drafted. ALL negotiate. Fina agreement. Smiling faces all round. Parliament eventually vote. That’s months.

The market price seems to reflect the current status.

There’s a big question on what the cost of an SMR is.

So far those that have been built have taken far longer and cost far more than the average initial estimates.

It’s at the design stage and who knows if they will simply roll off a production line in 2035(?) for the same cost… but a lot will happen in 10 years…

But over budget and over time par for the course of such major infrastructure projects.

But hey, we’re here for the short term RR sp - we can complain about its cost, etc when spending our gains 😉
