As some of you know, last week I posted what I thought was breaking news about Saga swinging at least some of their early cruises to the British Aisles.

It was kinda lost in a different thread and I think warranted it’s own.

FJGooner picked up on the fact that it was only a couple of the early cruises and not all and I think wanted to discuss this further but there were no takers.

I think we have to accept that there is the very distinct possibility that Saga will only be cruising the British Aisles in 2021 but that’s not a bad worst case scenario.

Once the hospitality industry opens then there is no argument to stop short cruises around Britain is there?

From what I have seen so far you seem opinionated but respectful and nothing wrong with that in my book.

Just can’t believe how quiet this discussion group is.

I’m no expert but I think the Works is a little gem and just can’t for the life of me understand why everyone isn’t buying at this price?

Not bothered of course because it makes difference to the huge return I am going to get on this Stock but they do say the stocks with the quietest discussion groups make the biggest gains.

Ok when I say ‘they’ I mean me because I have just made that up but my average is 30p and it’s now hovering around 40p so so far so good. Ha ha

Being able to laugh at yourself is such a good feature and providing it is money you can afford to (but would rather not) lose which it clearly is then all good.

I am confident you will get it all back with Saga (which means you will end up losing it all!!) ha ha

18 month JoeSoap? that’s a lonnnng time to hold a share mate and typical as soon as you sell an RNS is released. I’m convinced sometimes got a camera on me because I have done that so many times.

My worst ever was ODX. I had just over 600,000 of them at £0.39.

Sold the lot on impulse after a morning run after I had convinced myself that nobody is interested in whether you have HAD the virus only if you have GOT it.

2 days later they were £1+

Took me 3 months to get over that f u core - still hurts now ha ha

The wife often asks who I have been speaking to and I often say that I’m nothing really sure because everyone’s a stranger so I recite some of the names and she laughs her head off!

Hi SumOver the bulk is in my Isa account thankfully so the problem isn’t too bad but I will know better when I get this document off iii in April.

This game is all about risk isn’t it? I haven’t really got experience or knowledge as such and I’m not a gambler but because I don’t feel like this money is mine it’s much easier and just keeps paying off.

50 grand is mine but the rest isn’t, it’s paper.

I do do a lot of research though before I invest (well most of the time) so it’s not complete luck.

Just like everybody though I get it completely wrong though! Ha ha

I’ve made some absolute corking mistakes.

The most important message I would pass down to anybody is to have patience. It’s been my biggest enemy for sure - and still is.

Oh and don’t look at the share price 24/7 trying to second guess where it’s trying to go. It’s impossible and the algorithm that drives the share price (that we call the MM) will beat you 9 times out of 10.

It is so addictive though isn’t it?

I like to think I am a good judge of character and with your dry sense of humour you have got to be a Northerner?

Thank you batfast, you are right, my platform (iii) produces this for me and hopefully sorts out this 30 day rule (whatever that is) and that’s great to know.

I can’t believe I’m the only one with this problem so I’m sure others have also gained something from this thread.

Yeah culco I’m familiar with self build CGT but I built in my garden and sold the host building and moved into the new one so no CGT.

I’ve only traded substantial sums in the last 10 months because back in the dot com boom bust I lost everything! Ha ha (funny now but not then)

Thanks Banbury anyone who invested anything in Covid testing back in March are in the same boat so HRMC are well aware I would imagine and will possibly hunt us out?

I’m quite happy to pay the tax tbh providing it’s no more than my Trade Account balance and my Isa Account is we’re most of my gains are anyway will be b touched.

I am going to pass all of this to an accountant and get it sorted.

Thanks Russell yeah I’ve kinda got the idea now but my problem is compounded by the fact that I got carried away with buying and selling my entire holding for fun.

By absolute fluke I made a couple of hundred thousand £ 9 bagging AVCT in a couple of months and because it was just on paper I never treat it as if it so was super risky when I put it on AML.

It was fun and I got totally carried away especially since the very first shares I bought in AML were at 29p!

It’s been one hell of a ride and I felt invisible and kept putting all my eggs in one basket but now I have calmed down.

God knows how but I have still got most of it but I have a feeling the last 12 months is going to come back and haunt me.

A stupid question but I can’t be liable for anymore than my current Trade Account balance can I?

Surely that’s not possible?

Wow that is a big problem for me because I have traded (sold and re bought back) my entire holding many many times on several shares throughout the year - oops!

Basically it’s a complete mess!

Foolishly I naively thought CGT only applied when you transferred the proceeds off the platform and back into your account.

I’m with Interactive Investor (iii) and curious if they produce something at the end of the tax year to make this easier? They have all the information regarding each transaction of course?

Also noticed there is a profit/loss figure on my main screen for each of my accounts when I log on but this doesn’t bear any resemblance to my reality, it’s miles out.

Ah well not a bad problem to have I suppose, it could be so much worse and at least now I’m aware of it.

Guys this thread is for Tax Queries (and I guess Cricket ffs) only. Lol

Last April I opened an Isa and a Trade Share dealing account.

I have bought and sold shares many multiple of times in both sometimes making gains and other times losses but overall up. My Isa is maxed but I have added and withdrawn £ on my Trade Account.

Isa account no probs. Even though I have bought and sold shares I am aware that when I finally withdraw my £ from the platform back to my bank account its tax free.

My Trade account is my ‘problem’.

I have made large gains and losses as I have bought and sold shares on this account but overall I’m up.

Now my questions:-

1. Am I only liable for CGT when I txfer the money from my Trade Account back to my bank account OR is it compounded every time I sell shares on the platform? AND if so are the losses taken off the gains?
2. I am now a pensioner (OMG that’s the first time I have ever written that and still can’t believe it) and used to be PAYE so have never filled in a tax return so how do they ‘know’ I have made these gains?
3. My plan if I ever needed the money for any reason was to txfer back the £ I first invested and then £12,000 a year?

This is just a general query and I’m not expecting a detailed answer and if nobody can advise that’s fine.

Yeah good post slownsteady and I completely agree.

Back in the dot com boom bust with a young family in tow I got into this game and stupidly borrowed 10 grand which turned into 40 so I borrowed another 10 and then lost the lot. Ended up with a 20 grand loan that I could barely pay back.

Vowed I would never do it again and along came Covid. By complete fluke i bought AVCT at 22p and sold at just under £2. Made an absolute fortune and still can’t believe it.

I’m in the property game now, well retired tbh so this is just a bit of fun.

post because what he has said is so true.

Do not ‘invest’ (gamble) more than you can afford and genuinely afford to lose.

If you look at my history you will find a detailed post why I sold out of Card. My reasons still stand but the share price has dropped 25% since then so it is getting my attention again.

I’m not aware that they have breached any covenants because the bank has extended their payment deadline and is reviewing this on a monthly basis.

Personally I am already heavy into retail with a massive holding in WRKS. I am considering myself hedging my bet by swapping some into CARD but can’t bring myself to sell any of my WRKS holding.

Also I think it is highly likely CARD will have to raise £ with a RI very soon which will temporarily drive the price down and if that happens then I will re-invest.

My recommendation is to do the opposite to me, that works for most people. Ha ha Good luck!

I hope it is of course but the RNS is not clear.

The share price dropped 3p an hour before close which most probably meant the MMs caught wind of the RNS to be released at 5pm?

We will find out at 8:00 am tomorrow but I’m not worried at all because in 12 months time none of this will matter.

BB they were exactly 132p when the virus news broke. I know because I had sold £40 grands worth (my complete holding at the time) at 140p and was watching the price live waiting to buy back in at 130p OUCH.

Millionaire 200,000? seriously? Wow well done mate. I’m at 50,000 and contemplating going up to 100,000.

All eggs in one basket is risky business and I’m trying to have a balanced portfolio across different sectors.
