Apologies if this has been covered but there's a lot of information flying around today. I've digested and judged the news but I'm trying to work out, why now? Wouldn't it make more sense to see how the app launch went?
Also, if that was the plan, why would that have spent the last few months hiring content and then marketing roles? That would tally more with launching a product rather than winding down a business.
Yes agree that Spotify will be the main focus, although there may be ramifications for the whole business model. Let's hope we can be nimble enough to react if needed. Not something we're renowned for, yet!
Dare I say it, I think that they are right to do nothing with the current app. It's sub standard vs the competition so burning cash promoting would be a waste of cash. All cash and hands should be focused on building the best app in the market. This is what we're now invested in and I don't think the share price will move until we have a reaction to the new app. Whilst I'm disappointed (but unsurprised) in the dates moving back. If it means the best product possible then I think its acceptable.
As laughable as saying they'd sold a million tickets to Liam Gallagher? Or telling everyone to 'strap in' about three weeks ago only for the share price to not budge an inch?
Maybe so but I'm not sure why people are putting so much emphasis on this. Napster are not likely to disrupt for this reason because Spotify can easily adapt and simply change their royalty model. They will have economies that Napster don't and therefore be able to squeeze Napster if it were a problem. For me the visual side of things is the point of difference and that isn't easy to replicate.
The App has to be good, simple as. The current version of Napster is pretty crap and yet they seem to have a half decent user base.
And BTW, KoK, can I take my strap on off yet?
Wow Mel5, quite the change of tune. Your timeline is quite stark. You could go back further to the launch on the Go, lack of launch on the Quest, Facebook/Microsoft tie ins leading to nothing, Gore tie in going nowhere.
The way I look at this was that their first attempt at creating a VR company failed and there's been second coming in the form of a streaming platform. That's not what I plough my investment into but I'll give it a go, because the other option is take my pittance.
AM clearly overpromises and under delivers but he's also clearly an entrepreneur and there a sliver of hope left for me.
Was this the 1m Liam Gallagher tickets sold? Pretty sure that was one of yours.
At least we now know they didn't sell a million Liam Gallagher tickets eh lofas ;)
I've lost my bottle now but if I wasn't in so deep and had more guts I'd be doing the same.
I'm convinced it's true. A few of us were speculating about this about 6 months ago (notice period). There's a general consensus that Melody market was poor (although I liked the branding). The event marketing in particular was poor. I don't see this as a bad thing.
I thought that might happen. How did you discover this?
CroydonBoys, I dropped Spotify and moved to Napster when the RTO was announced. Its not a patch on Spotify, it does everything that Spotify does a bit worse and for the same price. I see this as a really good thing, they've acquired a successful business that has a poor product proposition. Imagine what will happen when they sort the product out and, crucially, make it different to Spotify.
I'm not sure it can be the BBC, given that you have to pay. Maybe if it was profit free. Whoever it is has been excluded from the poster and, knowing the values of the festival, I don't think they will be allowed to make a promotional song and dance.
Intering moment in the grand scheme of virtual gigs. Glasto are doing a globally livestreamed event on the 22nd May. Coldplay and some other big names. The question is, who is livestreaming it?
"Agree with this. Is she moving on, do we think?"
That would be my speculative conclusion Londondan.
Good luck everyone.
