The official figures per day for infections have been in the region of average 5k per day per day over the last week. The 20k a day was cited by one expert on the basis that the real figures must be higher than official figures as they are only testing about 80,000 per day so the official figures will be an underestimate. We are still only very early on in this pandemic and do not know yet about immunity against subsequent infections, whether it will mutate and whether a vaccine will be possible and when. There are an awful lot of unknowns!!!

Australia has brought their outbreak under control and seen 93 deaths. Compare that to the situation in this country. But we can't blame the government and it isn't fair to make comparisons!! With that mentality, things will only get worse. We need reform in the political and administrative system in this country. The incompetence is never ending and now we hear the government is to finally introduce a 14 day quarantine on visitors. Slow and bungling. But that is only because the UK is so out of step with other countries. It has been apparent from the Brexit debacle that the way this country is run needs reform. We have too many self serving corrupt politicians, too much cronyism and too many overpaid poorly performing senior civil servants who face no accountability. We need more scrutiny through independent press, less party politics, no more bluffers and spivs, more meritocracy and to start sacking those who fail and make them accountable for failure and mediocre performance.

Is it just me or do the daily figures not seem to be improving that much? Infections and the mortality rate don't seem to have changed much over the last couple of weeks.

Thoughts.... wait til next week when BoJo is on the 6 o clock news cutting the red ribbon to open the new Novacyt lab able to process 30,000 tests a day and Matt Hanclock is telling the press about the new dpcr technology developed here in the UK by Novacyt to help the government carry out rapid mass testing. The government are desperate for good news stories and something to make them look competent.

This virus has killed enough people and caused a lot of harm. Finally we are starting to fight back. Good on Novacyt.

Both AZN and Glaxo are now trying to develop vaccines for Covid and investigating drugs for treatment. Neither currently have an interest in diagnostics and testing. If dpcr means Novacyt could scale up testing wouldn't you think they would want a slice of the testing pie which is proving to be a very large market? A vaccine won't be widely available for at least a year, but could take several years.

In theory, if you could quickly and regularly test en masse, contact trace people who have been in contact with carriers, and quarantine those infected you might be able to purge the virus.

The results seem poor to me. The Chinese study found it wasn't helpful. This latest trial shows NO statistical improvement in survival rates, those who did recover, did so on average a few days quicker. But Trump is desperate for a cure hence the "cautious" welcome from the administration. Well, it had to be better than injecting dettol!!

Hargreaves Lansdown. I used to be very happy with them but since covid 19 the service has really declined which is unacceptable. The excuse is covid 19 impacting their business. There has to be a minimum level of service and I expect major companies to have contigency plans in place to cover things like office fires, staff shortages, war, internet outages etc. Perhaps I'm being unreasonable, but it is annoying when you cannot login to your trading account.

Useful discussion. The speaker is head of healthcare at SP Angel so knows the market. He sounds very bullish, says share price rise entirely justified. Says market average profit margin for diagnostics is 60 to 80% and if you work on an average price of between $5 to $8 per test you come out with very big numbers for profits. Says that demand for tests won't go on forever, vaccine will come along at some point but demand for tests is still going to run to hundreds of millions. Also said governments are outbidding each other due to shortage of tests and paying upfront to secure supplies, they also want to stockpile in case of second wave.

This could rumble on for years. Imagine when it gets to autumn\winter cold and flu season. Is it coronavirus or is it flu? Only way to know is testing. Demand for testing at scale will be needed as long as there is no vaccine. It is in places like Brazil and Africa now. Covid 19 is with us until we have a vaccine. Ebola vaccine took 5 years. 18months for a vaccine is optimistic.

Exporting to 100 countries. 5. Right product at the right time. 6. Carrying no debt. 7. Well managed. 8. Only a small number of shares in market.

There has been a lot of coverage in the press today - Daily Mail and Times so I think there may be quite a lot of interest.

Also, note current share price of GWPH is $101 per share. So perhaps the "back of a fag packet" suggestions of £67 a share for Novacyt are not bat**** crazy. Right product at the right time plus bullish market for covid stocks = unicorn.

Current market cap of GW Pharma, another AIM success story now listed on NASDAQ. Well, $3.3 billion actually. And you think Novacyt are overvalued?? Well, sales figures due this week so we shall see!!!

Begbies is one of the few stocks that should do well outperform in this climate and it pays a dividend as well. The worse the economy gets the better it will perform. About 3 months from now i reckon things going to get real bad. More debt than 2008 and looking back at the share chart Begbies did very well then.
