I think trying to hold off a takeover isn't necessarily a sensible thing to do. Suppose BHP comes along tomorrow and offers the equivalent of 80p a share, with 20p in cash and the balance as shares in BHP? You then get a steady dividend and everything is derisked as BHP have the money to turn Alpala into a mine. It is all very well having ambitions to start mining yourself, but in a high risk jurisdiction, it will be costly and difficult. Sirius Minerals took on the job of financing and building a mine themselves and we all know how that ended, a firesale at a knockdown price to Anglo.

Alas the share price forecasts are not increasing, it is the share price falling which is making the previous estimates more favourable. You lot will just have to be patient until year end as I think we may all be surprised.

You mention mortality but have completely overlooked morbidity. The problem with covid has always been the fact that it is highly virulent and causes significant morbidity to the point where healthcare services are overwhelmed. Additionally 0.1% may be a small proportion, but out of population of 6,500,000,000 you are talking very large numbers, and that 0.1% is actually over 10% in certain groups so is much more significant than your headline figure suggests.

Covid is currently causing absolute chaos in schools not because it is killing children, but because schools are great places for coughs and sneezes to spread diseases. If the government wants schools to return to anything like normality they will have to spend a lot more on testing. Kids will also be low on the list of priorities for the vaccine as well because though they become infected, they don't tend to become seriously ill.

I think people will be trully shocked at how much taxes will have to increase by. Bringing the CGT rate in line with higher rate income tax and removing the personal allowance is low hanging fruit. After the last war the top rate of tax was 99.25% and the total tax revenue receipts doubled after the war from what they had been before. The debt will take more than a generation to repay.

I reckon when the share price tanked the other day it has shaken out all the weak hands and all the stops so it may have been a good thing, but I bet a lot of small investors who sold are now locked out unless they want to buy back in at a much higher price. So who panicked and sold at £5.50?
