On what I've found in the RNSs I certainly can't see where the notion of 'imminent deal' comes from that gets bandied about on the board, unless I've missed something in which case I'm quite happy to be corrected. It just doesn't seem to have given any results that would justify the sort of sums of money required for further work. As I say, unless I have missed a clue here.

The other week Gilders suggested I look at the science of 201, so I have.
October 2013 (3 weeks before a £1 million placing) they changed the trial strategy ‘to measure efficacy as well as safety and tolerability.’ Satu said ‘The extra information ... will moreover make the product more attractive to potential partners.’
Feb 2015 (2 weeks before an 800k placing) ‘...its lead compound, VAL201 was safe and well tolerated at the doses tested....the trial will advance to the next elevation of dose, where further safety and tolerability testing will be undertaken and early stage efficacy will continue to be investigated.’
June 2015 – ‘The trial is now advancing through the planned dose escalation..’
February 2016 (the day before a placing) ...the trial's Cohort Review Committee has recommended that the final dose escalation be approved.’ And ‘tumour modulating effects that were shown preclinically and have been hinted at during the in-human stage...’ So the best they have after 28 months is ‘hinted at’.
Jan 2017 ‘..adding additional clinical sites to participate in the dose-escalating, therapeutically relevant phase of the trial’
December 2017 – ‘approval ... to expand its VAL201 trial for the Phase I/II Dose Escalation Study.... VAL201 has demonstrated consistently high safety and tolerability, as well as preliminary effectiveness...’ (This is after four years and they talk of ‘preliminary’ effectiveness – It hasn’t exactly had anyone dancing round the lab in joy has it?) ‘This approval allows for a substantial increase in the dose of VAL201 being administered ...allowing treatment to more speedily reach its full therapeutic potential and potential anti-cancer impact.’ (Note ‘POTENTIAL’ anti-cancer impact)
October 2018 – ‘entering the concluding stages of the trial’ BUT ‘UCLH continues to recruit suitable patients to complete the trial. Further results will be announced as they become available and have been verified.’ So still recruiting in ‘concluding stages’? Paradoxical IMO.
December 2018- ValiRx ..’independent analysis of VAL201 data....an initial formal statistical analysis of the VAL201 clinical data conducted by Dr Wilson Caparros-Wanderley, an independent statistical consultant.
His analysis was ‘undertaken using a non-parametric approach’. Non-parametric mean ‘not involving any assumptions as to the form or parameters of a frequency distribution.’ Can we have that in English? Or why can’t they say how many patients have been treated in this dose escalation trial? Jonjo on 24/1/19 said ‘Uncanny- as for expecting great things on 201 - when exactly? Trying to locate the relevant RNS on timelines but for some reason I can’t seem to find it ??’
In six years of RNSs all I can see is they have done placings and a bit of dose escalation. I can’t see a single shred of evidence to make me think Val201 is on the cusp of anything, except possibly being shelved.

The proactive interview was also good to reinforce the fact that getting into the final 10 is a massive endorsement, as has been said here before.

Only a guess, but a reasonable one I think - I would imagine that a 'plan B' of 'what we are going to do if GC doesn't go to PBP' will have been worked on in considerable depth well ahead of the announcement, so it should be a matter of putting this into effect, or at least fine-tuning it and implementing it now that it is a reality. I also wonder for how long the parties to the GC have known the results. Some while longer than the rest of us I'll bet.

There was a lot of discussion in the lead-up to the GC results about the fact that the prize money would belong to PBP, not to the company, and so the financial position of Scancell would not alter significantly anyway. So while I am disappointed that PBP did not get an award, one has to look to where it leaves the company - and it remains (imo) in a good place regardless. The useful part of the GC entry is that it has made plain to us just who Lindy is rubbing shoulders with, both individuals and companies, and they are hugely significant players - nobody has ever had any doubt on that score! Also I did say a while ago that the future of such collaborations were never going to be dependent on a GC win, so the interest that Roche, BioNtech and the rest have in Moditope remains. Additionally, the two appointments announced on Monday are as interesting and useful as ever - unfortunate that they weren't announced today rather than just ahead of the GC result - I suspect some of the pre-GC rise was due to them as well, but anyway as C7 says, we are back to Friday's sp with progress continuing and as much going on in the background as ever. If anything the GC result may focus minds and efforts a little harder, which ultimately is no bad thing. A win would no doubt have raised some concerns about spreading resources too thinly, so it is swings and roundabouts. As they say, onward and upward!

As long as it's better than publishing royalties! Seriously though, one of the persistent and significant things about Scancell's science has been the anticipated low cost of manufacture, and presumably the more universal the vaccine, the higher the profit margin.

Stuff percentages for now - I'd be very happy to see Scancell make any profit at all to start with. We can argue how big a percentage it should become once it arrives in some form or another. Until then it's just hypothesis!

They have three products - all seem highly capable...of reducing excitement and suppressing all traces of optimism.
