Posters who say it did work in the Home setting when compares with placebo are misleading .Two people on placebo required hospitalization and symptoms breathlessness was longer in the placebo .In the Pfizer vaccination trials which around 44000 people on trial you were only talking Among 10 cases of severe COVID-19 after the first dose, nine occurred in placebo recipients and one in a person who received the vaccine.Extrapolate the population treated to 22000 for sng would prevent hospitalization of 1 in 100 do your own maths

No media news attention to what appears to be very good news for the patients in the Home setting or I am I deluded .What other drug has produced these results .If Prof Horby had obtained these results in this setting it would be headline news

beta interferon plus Rentschler formulation at a particular pH, osmality etc to optimize efficacy can be protected with patent as far as I understand

I agree with Scinv on the patent business But what is concerning what is stopping countries like Argentina using their own interferon product in Latin America which is scourged by the pandemic killing thousands who can blame them. We talking about countries that are corrupt and we know are supplying the majority of the worlds illegal drugs .Germany can be indifferent too preferring Spunik from Communists to the AZ vaccine lol

Thanks for your post particularly for point 5) below From my memory was there a Brazilian paper which you helped myself and others to understand that cells form the nasal cavity could be used and tested to predict a prognosis for those that would develop severe disease or in other words those that require treatment or not as indicated in 5) would be useful

5) Scinv does make a good point that treating people earlier at home would mean treating a lot of people who would not get severe disease and would recover on their own. However, we have not yet seen whether there are benefits in terms of long Covid for early home treatment

You say in your last post "They ignore the Science " I know you are critical of RM but who really calla the shots in investigating the science in the trials is it RM or Sir Stephen Holgate,a Medical Research Council Clinical Professor of Immunopharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine and who has published over 1000 papers in peer-reviewed literature Surely he will not miss a trick and lest likely to ignore the science ?

If there is any Credence we are not going to get result till Sept/Oct then I cannot wait that long ,but I do think RM needs to inform if this is the case. If the previous expectations have missed we need to know the reasons why and also reassured that the treatment is not the problem but simply logistics etc this might quell concerns

Couldn't agree more I remember when RM was on that video panel and when asked about long Covid the other were just looking sheepish while RM piped up gleefully. We are without a doubt ahead of the field

I have always been impressed with the detail of your scientific knowledge .But so much detail brings to mind the expression wood and trees The clinical trials are testing our therapeutic against various phenotypes which we have observed and know to be susceptible to the disease which the compelling scientific evidence suggests is the result of impaired Ifn beta or other factors you have mentioned . Whatever the immunological /viral /genetic role we need to demonstrate a beneficial therapeutic effect of our treatment . The rest of the Science is academic and the real and greatest challenge seems is the process of of conducting trials in a global setting to obtain evidence to prove this effect ATB
