Thanks for the clarification and humour .I must admit I did not read the study it its entirety because of its lack of brevity and was as I thought giving a generalised summary of IFN 1 both injectable and neubulised without stating the clear advantages of Neb Ifn beta especially for the treatment of patients with preexisting autoanibodies and I don't think it mention it anywhere in the study so it was disappointing unless I missed it

From the article .I find slightly confusing even though the researchers Ref our studies on nebulized beta interferon reducing mortality etc They go on to as below to talk about IFN 1 ( by definition to IFN1 are they referring to beta interferon if to seems to be conflicting evidence to what we already Know

Early in the pandemic steroid use was not advised for the treatment of Covid precisely for that reason of the possibility of secondary infection

What I have read it is related to steroid use which could include dexamethasone that supresses the immune system and diabetics are particular susceptible because high blood sugar allowing secondary infections like the black fungus to become invasive .Poor health systems like India may have a difficulty controlling environmental contamination of the fungus and other microbes in hospitals or they may be using the too high dose of Steroids knocking out the immunity

It is interesting research .But SNG will the detect levels of biomarkers in both treatment and placebo arms to whether beta interferon stimulates ISG genes .The mechanism for nebulised saline is different and would not show this immunogenic effect Neubulised saline mitigates exhaled bioaerosols by a mechanism that increases surface tension properties using aqueous salts and there is no treatment effect other than reducing spreading infection to somebody else . Incidentally an aqueous solution is nebulised in SNG's placebo arm , other trials involving infused Mabs have found it is difficult to demonstrated conclusive results in early interventions such as HT and SNG appears to be the best so far imho,

The figures given are from 10-30% to Hospitalisation . The latest expectation for HT I noted is RM saying the "any signal from HT is good news" and it was good news better than any other Mab trials Those 10-30 % are not realistic in HT setting imo

Those percentages seem very high and wide ranging even at a targeted group I thought it would be at around 1- 10% when did he quote those figure because it might have depended on the statistical modelling at the time

Depending who gets the chair in the Antiviral Task Force then we might have an endorsement for the treatment now the vaccines proved successful. The Gov has to plan for the Autumn ,variants , influenza ,COPD and possibly another Wave [Without a Lockdown] what better drug than SNG. Dix and Bingham did it for vaccines .What other antivirals will be available by in the Autumn time frame

Not very pleasant side effects but what they would say is the benefit of not getting Covid would out weigh the side effects But there are drugs like SNG with no side effects , moreover , indiscriminate use protease inhibitors may result in resistant variants and nobody will want that

If a wonder pill from Pfizer or Merck comes to market presumably anybody gets a slightest cough or temp people would pop them but I believe it might be only under prescription if I remember correctly . Indiscriminate treatment as with the vaccines and antibiotic resistance may encourage drug induced viral mutagenesis and highly resistant strains is a very challenging conundrum for indiscriminate use of drugs .To obviate this problem and they would have to differentiate those not to treat and those to treat at the home setting. With this complex virus treatment simply popping a pill as Boris said it is not the panacea Sng can select and treat patients on severe breathlessness and in time will have genetic or immunological tests for interferon deficiency or autoantibodies increasing the number of sweet spots for treatment imo

RM said the Home trial provided useful data who to treat and who not treat is invaluable in drug development meaning those who severely breathless "on the edge of Hospitalisation" will be kept out of hospital .From a clinicians perspective this is significant news
