The global demand for a rapid antigen test is currently unlimited compared to supply. The key, as we've heard, is generating as much supply as possible. The combination of a safe reliable vaccine and rapid testing is the solution.

In other competition news, Sona are fund raising for further validation of their test (that one exists) and Orasure are still very quiet so their test doesn’t. Turns out it’s not very easy to produce these things and get them to market. That’s probably why it’s not priced in.

Jon Deeks is absolutely right. The Innova test is being shamefully abused. It’s for mass screening and helping to get the r value down. That’s as far as it’s use case goes and given the original instructions it’s being stretched to suggest it can help that much, but anything is better than nowt. It is not a diagnostic and using it in care homes is putting the most vulnerable at risk, it’s disgraceful.

There's a simple answer. Letters of intent / comfort - call them what you will. If the govt want the product and there's a cashflow issue, they'll provide the cash based on them securing the volumes.

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt.

I’ve told my parents to join the back of the front of the queue. They’ve said they’ll consider taking the Oxford vaccine but don’t trust the others. The govt have said they won’t tell people which one they’re getting, so I imagine that will put a lot of people off.

Whilst we’re discussing competition and at the risk of an influx of pointless bickering, just to mention that Mologic to ODX tech transfer hasn’t started yet. In their results today ODX have noted that they have a team ready and look forward to starting. That suggests they are a while away from manufacturing whereas we’re somewhere vague where we have achieved something, but BBI are still working on it.

Ultimately, if it gives the confidence to travel, whilst a pain, arriving earlier is better than travelling without knowing if the virus is on board and having quarantine etc. If that became standard, you’d want to test yourself to make sure before travelling. No cost at the airport, so paying for some Awacta at home tests wouldn’t be too much expense, especially compared with the costs of the current airline testing options.
