The govt spent £500m on innova tests, they’ve got plenty to use

I think they’re using Innova tests and they’re continuing to ignore the manufacturer instructions that said for patients with symptoms and to carry out a brain level swab. They’re already only swabbing the throat and nose. Now it seems they’re dropping the throat. They’ve seen the difference in results between a HCP and the public and decided it’s better to have a simpler method.

oxygen, I do wonder. Naive Sir Al might have been bent over a barrel without realising it. The profit share arrangement is way too vague for my liking, as you've said, they just chuck a load of 'costs' in there and we get peanuts back from a much higher margin product.

Devil's advocate.... Perhaps the goal is purely protect the NHS and then protect the economy moves up the pecking order. Perhaps the govt will accept 1 in 10 pensioners getting seriously ill/dying and 10% of the current peak is manageable so they're aiming for a vaccination programme and then just letting it rip.

All very shambolic. They need a high efficacy rate as take up won’t be near 100%, especially for the mRNA vaccines. I’ve always felt that the best shot to get on top of the virus was mass screening and I’ve not changed my mind. It’ll be a combo, but as long as it circulates, huge amounts of testing will be needed.

The other consideration is politics might come in to it, with tit for tat refusals. The FDA might not fancy the Oxford developed vaccine purely because it’s from the U.K. and maybe they got wind that the MHRA don’t fancy the mRNA vaccines.
