It’s more about xmas and tiers, but Bojo loves a sh.t sandwich so it’ll be good news that r is falling so we can all go mad at xmas, then the bad news about the new year lockdown and harsh tiers followed by the promise of mass testing, an unproven vaccine and wild statements that it’ll be fine by spring.

We might get some numbers for phase 1 of the BAMS work, alternatively that might not happen until phase 2 in 4 weeks time. TT can drop at any time and as part of that, Sir Al might drop in a nugget to confirm BAMS in under way with the timescales Perdita has shared. So, the usual anticipation awaits....

We need a safe, proven effective vaccine and that takes time. As for the queue, I’ve seen the govt list and I’ll be at the back. If it’s an unproven vaccine I’ll not join the queue at all. As other posters have said, not an anti-vax view, a long term health view as there’s possibly less risk in getting Covid than pumping untested drugs in my system. I currently have to take antihistamines to control side effects from some apparently safe drugs so I tend to be wary.

Jay, from Sir Al’s description, I can’t imagine anything other than it replacing PCR capacity given the cheaper costs. Perhaps the competition’s affimerless efforts aren’t up to scratch?

Given the complete lack of knowledge regarding the vaccines, I’d imagine a huge amount of antigen testing. You’ll need one before you get mRNA shoved in the your system. Then when you get a cough, is it a cough, best get tested. Is everyone protected or is it still circulating, best get a test. I can’t see any scenario, including the insane one of pumping untested vaccines in people where huge volumes of testing are not needed. Chartyman, I doubt the two will be correlated as they both have retail cash in there and are news driven.

It’s completely irresponsible of the govt to be even considering a vaccination programme based on new and as yet unproven tech with so many unanswered questions. It’s equally irresponsible of the press to be plastering on their front pages that everyone will have a jab and it’ll all be done by spring. It’s nonsense, they haven’t enough doses and even if they did the take up rate won’t be as high as the 75% they’re predicting - coincidentally the % needed if the 90%+ efficacy is to be believed. The contrast between the Oxford study and companies purely desperate to cash in is as clear as day.

Who knows, maybe we’ll be lucky and this nightmare will roll on for years with mutations. By then affimers in humans will have been trialled and so injecting affimers might be a thing.

Not seeing a huge difference between specially engineered antibodies and affimers. It also mentions their specially engineered antibodies are difficult to produce at scale, unlike affimers.

Wish, I can definitely believe that. I posted some waffle yesterday about GDR and their CEO basically saying he couldn’t give a rat’s posterior about comms and adapting his style. It’s quite easy to compare and contrast to Sir Al who has taken additional time in Q&A sessions, he’s created explanatory videos and whilst we’ve seem some frustration creep in, it’s clear he recognises the share register is more diverse and he appreciates every shareholder.
