Saliva collected via a swab is still saliva, why are people wetting themselves, who cares how it gets from your mouth to the LFD? We’ve never been told how it would work. Using a swab into a buffer in a similar fashion to Innova seems like it could be a more consistent collection method than flobbing everywhere. Genuinely couldn’t care less if it exceeds the requirements.

I guess you need to be quite careful when you're declaring a new gold standard that will replace PCR and you're about to spend millions on putting in place the MS infrastructure to support 600k tests a day.

Struggling to see why people are up in arms that PCR is picking up more cases as a percentage. PCR is used for symptomatic cases, LFDs for population screening so it’s pretty obvious why. Zero common sense applied by Richard Tice.

Very good post JDT. It even goes beyond that as the diagnostics industry is currently under the spotlight so there are long term implications. Being seen as producing a world leading best in class test where larger players have failed will show the world the genius of affimers.

The entire planet have only just started to scratch the surface when it comes to testing. Until rapid tests are ubiquitous Covid will continue to spread as PCR isn’t fit for purpose due to the time to results and lab constraints. The nature of the virus means there’s no chance of stopping it without rapid tests and even then you need very good ones. The opportunity is only just opening up, Biden wants to increase testing 7 fold. The U.K. want 120m per month. Two countries. The virus is still rampant and the promise of vaccines that will take years to prove and roll out doesn’t change it...
