Your diatribe was going so well until you said LFDs are falling out of favour. They’re desperately needed to enable mass screening. Poor quality LFDs aren’t looking too great, but the govt have abused their usage so it’s their own fault. This sets the bar higher for any new ones. We’ve been told we should exceed requirements, but then WaffAl can’t be trusted, as months later he then says saliva was challenging.

It’s that LFD in a box again, is it alive or dead. As noted, BAMS could be the saviour here as results of some description from Awacta’s initial clinical preliminary study or from Perdita and the gang should be due ‘shortly’.

I’ve not seen anyone else using ‘coronavirus spike protein in laboratory samples’ as a measurement so it’s impossible to know if it’ll be any good in clinical samples. He said the same for the saliva test incidentally. I’m not saying releasing comparable figures is a joy either, it hasn’t really worked out for Sona for example.

Interesting debate indeed. What does 300pg/ml of spike protein actually represent? It’s a term and measurement that’s not used anywhere by anyone else to describe the LOD. Having spent a chunk of time googling I couldn’t find how this might be translated to give an indication of how the LFD might perform using clinical samples.

This uses NAAT Detectable Units/mL and gives a comparison across various tests and sample types. You can see the increase in saliva so it’s no wonder they struggled. Not sure if an AN swab is considered dry. I hope not.

No, because if you read it, it says test kits. You can also read their previous award for £148.5m and you can also read that it’s a stop gap measure before the £912m contract is awarded.

Good stuff. Demonstrates that it’s possible to get decent results from just your nose. Quite like the shortened swab which helps guide people to get the sample. I think the built in Bluetooth was overkill and has resulted in an unnecessarily expensive test. Plenty opportunity for a cheap version that works with a BBI app via a reader.

I expect there is an NDA. It’s standard practice in contractual negotiations and protects both parties. The govt are only naming tests that have been through validation and that will be with permission. That’s not the reason for a lack of communication. It’s not a screen. The silence and WaffAl update is due to a chronic lack of progress on all sides.
