i've already read a couple of articles suggesting president biden has left a "ticking time bomb" of an economy...... they're already preparing the excuses for trump. trump thrives on creating chaos. markets hate chaos. trump "thinks" he's some sort of business guru (7 bankruptcies including a casino suggest otherwise). the republican party have to suck up to trump because if they don't maga will tear them to pieces. therefore when the emperor utters bat**** crazy economic ideas the party just say yes.... i saw in breaking news earlier biden has felt compelled to issue a pardon to pretty much anyone associated with attempting to bring trump to justice. he's even had to pre-emptively pardon dr anthony fauci.... because the guy who recommended you drink bleach to kill covid19 could possibly try and persecute him in the courts to appease his rabid maga followers. the world is insane - trump is insaner.

NTC... I see where you're coming from but would suggest you "get" your understanding from reading - whether this is in the form of reading charts, reading technical analysis or reading peoples opinions. I'm quite an impulsive soul so have to be weary about jumping into things too quickly. I find finding throws up some companies I've never heard of (generally us companies). I read a guus comment on the Gregg's board a few months back and it struck a chord. He said the reason he invested in Gregg's was whenever he passed one of their shops there was a queue outside... I try and get my info from as many sources as possible and then analyse the companies that seem good in more detail. Quite like retirementplan's method:-)

Hi Svend - interesting - and not surprising you have a S.V.E.N.D. system ;-). Due to FOMO I struggle to invest in companies who are not named RR.... I did venture outside the auspices of RR with a very small flutter on GST but am already regretting it.... I used some pretty standard set-ups on FinViz when I was looking for possibles - (EPS growth over next 5 years - over 10%, price above SMA 20, ROE over 15%, current ratio - over 1.5 etc etc)

What's your set up for screening stocks Svend? I've played with Finviz a bit and it's a useful tool - I'd be interested to know what parameters you set.

"Could be an exceptional year again..." - Interesting that when I did a trawl of journalists' "share for 2025" there was no mention of RR - plenty of names thrown into the pot (including Airbus (which you'd think would be a no brainer considering Boeing's woes...)) - however not one mention of RR. Arrogance? Caution? Pettiness? (I doubt many picked it last year so maybe they just want to forgett their oversight)....

The "trump factor" is very real. He's so incredibly thin skinned if Westinghouse lobby him (and throw him some cash) he'll ramp up the pressure....wouldn't put it past labour to mothball the SMR project - despite the nations needs for power.

To mop up some "cheap" shares for anyone with the foresight to have sold when it got into the 80's last week - despite my intention of selling high and re-investing when the inevitable drop occurred - I've (yet again) failed to carry out this most basic manoeuvre....

the market hates uncertainty. trump revels in spewing out the first thing that comes into his head - his inner circle rarely have an accurate idea of exactly what he's going to do and when he comes out with one of his bat**** crazy statements ("we're gonna make canada the 51st state"...) they scramble to make things look as normal as possible... many didn't like the dem policies - republicans can't stand what they perceive as "woke" policies which the dems support... however the one thing the dems did bring is stability to the economy. the next 4 years will be an eye opener and a rollercoaster ride - tumps inability to keep one lateral thought and eagerness to spew a machine gun volley of crazy will not bode well for market stability. i'm not suggesting the markets won't react positively in the long run - however it is inconceivable that there will be a smooth upward trend due to trumps inability to control what summounts to tourettes.....

FFS.... so it's gonna go big or go low with no real warning... or reason. Thanks for the heads up Svend. :-)

Thanks for your wisdom NTC. I really don't understand all the hate from Dougal - "snake oil salesman" jeez - Anyone who bothers to read NTC's blog will be well aware that he is both knowledgeable and passionate about his trades - I can't think of anyone else on this board who had the vision 2 years ago to state RR would be £7 come Feb 2025 - Most sane individuals at the time (me included) deduced a man who claimed to be a cat prophesising the SP of RR in 2 years time was a few pence short of a quid - how wrong we all were. There's a great tradition in this country of knocking someone because they're popular / smart / succesful - NTC ticks all these boxes and hence has attracted a few haters. People like Dougal should grow up or Feck off - it's nauseating seeing a 40 year old man behave like such an immature prick.

Given the fact that awarding 100% of the contract to a UK based / UK owned company is the most sensible route....and given the fact we are talking about politicians... I'd be surprised if they went 100% RR. It makes total and utter sense to award the full contract to RR (I doubt their quote is unreasonable) - however, again we're dealing with politicians who often fail to see the bleeding obvious even when it's presented gift wrapped in front of them (with a bow on top). I truly hope you're right NTC.

Nvidia's still tipped for pretty good gains long term. I'm sure you'll be fine.
