JB, there could be short term pain as the BoD pour money into crushing the union, tearing up contracts and sacking those non compliance staff (I think that I have judged that correctly fro a couple of months of reading comments on here) folled by a bit more short term pain as the business trained the hordes of new recruits bursting with pride at the thought of a fresh new career in Royal Mail, followed by a bit more short term pain when they realise that it's not quite as good a job as they thought it was going to be. A high attrition rate and variable staffing reliability.... that's the stuff we need to make RM UK great again..... isn't it?

Wolves, it's noticeable and quite strange how the millennials don't see Royal Mail as an employee worth looking at? I have noticed that the job adverts put out aren't exactly inspiring and they certainly don't mention the vast gulf in hourly rate and benefits like the pension scheme (although not necessarily an eye catcher for the young) and annual leave allocation between Royal Mail and the competition?
One of the things that I have noticed is that the number of hours on offer at Royal Mail is low compared to the competition. For instance, our local Amazon depot/warehouse is happy to offer 10 or 12 hour shifts 5 or 6 days a week to those fit enough to be able to sustain that and it does seem to appeal to a lot of young couples as presumably their earning potential is high?

So, what you are saying is that the posties should accept whatever is put on the table by the employer? Take it or leave it? No negotiation?
I don't know what you do for a living but if you are a private trader I would imagine that you have almost certainly increased the price of your goods this year to cover increased running costs if nothing else?

Not quite the case or badly worded. The posties have their existing terms, which the employer wants to drastically change and reduce.

As I have posted earlier, the posties were happy with their terms however the BoD decided that these needed to change. The recent VR exercise was oversubscribed. The business wanted 10,000 posties but received over 30,000 applications out of around 85,000 delivery posties. That tells me that around a third of posties are unhappy with their proposed new terms?

AngerSharkz, the situation is quite bizarre. The Torygraph publishes a story saying that RM UK are going to throw the kitchen sink at it which will be a declaration of war to the CWU........ and the SP?.......no change.....

This will either soar like an eagle or fly like a beagle...lol

AngerSharkz, thanks. Yes I can see where the money is coming from now although I had originally thought that the £925m was to settle an outstanding loan for the investment of parcels automation to be paid back in 2025/26ish. I may be wrong of course and perhaps that money is now deemed to be more useful now and worry about finding it later on down the line?
I'm rather surprised that the market hasn't reacted in a more positive way to the news though?

I'm not exactly sure what products you are selling, exactly how time critical they are or where you are sending them to but I as I understand the situation you use or have the ability to use other carriers?
The Royal Mail website has been very good at displaying advanced warning of potential service disruption and the CWU legally has to give a minimum of fourteen days notice to Royal Mail. Indeed, some of the strike dates published by the CWU were almost seven weeks in advance.
So my question is, with so much notice given, could you not have made alternative plans for your products to be conveyed by another carrier over the published dates?

JB, I noticed the increase by Millennium International this afternoon. Now that the Torygraph article has been released, I wonder if there will be a retraction as any company that announces that it has a £1.7bn war chest to beat the strikes and defeat the union must surely be onto a winner in the long run?
Speaking of the £1.7bn, I wonder if that's an accumulation of the unpaid wages from strike action or if it has been found elsewhere? If the strategy of the BoD was to incite strike action in order to accumulate funds to beat the union and in doing so cause wilful delay of the mail then it's a dangerous strategy?
Just throwing out some ideas and all IMHO of course.

AngerSharkz, you like to study the fundamentals. Where in the accounts have the BoD been hiding £1.7m and do you reckon that they will have to dip int GLS profits?
The only way that I can see it is if they do equity release on the estate valuation.....

I don't believe that I have posted negatively regarding loss of dividend (although it should be seen as a gift and not a given) and I find the decline of the SP is fantastic news in the short term as it is a brilliant opportunity to load up on the cheap this giving everyone the opportunity to make a decent return in the future. As for vitriol, well, Jimmy has it in abundance. Nothing like not posting for four years and then venting your spleen in an anonymous online forum to help ease your frustrations?
By the way, I haven't sent any Christmas cards in the post this year. I have delivered anything within a 30 mole radius by car and anything further has been an online gift card.
