crumbs, I believe that Thompson's plan is for owner drivers so vehicle checks, servicing, faults, breakdowns etc will be down to the owner drivers who will be paid 60p per item and be grateful.....
Also under the owner driver scheme it will be easier for the business to achieve it's net zero targets as the business won't have to declare a contractor's carcinogenic diesel regardless of the amount of blue smoke coming from the exhaust....lol

I would say January but that would affect the Christmas returns market.....

How about an alternative scenario such as the general public posting items into a system and making the situation worse despite repeated warnings of strike action.
If my barber tells me that he is going on holiday for two weeks and his shop will be shut I'm not going to queue outside his shop until he comes back..... I will go somewhere else.
Remember, other barbers are available.....lol

Perhaps the minimum wage should be applied to all UK workers in order to fix the current financial crisis that the UK seems to be at the bottom of the league table for dealing with? That'll work.....not.

As an aide memoire, in early February, Terry Pullinger wrote to Simon Thompson requesting a meeting regarding the annual pay negotiations which were due to be completed by the end of March. There was no response from Thompson or the BoD until after the full year results were announced in mid May probably because Thompson, Williams and Jeavons had known that the finances were bad as far back as late December 2021 but couldn't spill the beans possibly because of stock market regulations or because they knew that an announcement would be bad for the already falling share price and it would look like mismanagement especially following the share buyback scheme . Either way, the BoD were tight lipped.
The penny should have dropped as departments were asked to stop purchasing items that were non essential to the day to day running (JB knows the score here) and both major and minor building projects were put on hold or cancelled. Even essential healthy and safety work had to be justified which is unusual.
The rest, as they say is history but the origins of most disputes are normally lost in the turmoil that follows.....

It may be easier to rewind back to mid February 2022 and start at the beginning as the "why's" will take a long time and we're gonna need a big piece of paper.

merlwood, I'm not blaming the management for doing what they did, I'm just relaying the information as to why some mail was delayed more than other mail.
I would suggest that you do a proper root cause analysis (keep asking why) before jumping to conclusions on the blame game.

On strike days, the mail iny building is taken from the articulated trailers by managers and the containers are put into a warehouse which only has one entrance. The mail, usually two days worth, is not sorted.
When the workforce return they are instructed to deal with the incoming mail before dealing with the backlog on the grounds that the mail in the warehouse has already missed it's target plus the office is now rammed with little spare room and no spare wheeled furniture and as parcels are bulkier than letters the unofficial priority list is to deal with parcels first, DSA letter mail next and letter box collection mail last especially as they are utilising the machine operators to sort manual parcels.
So by the next strike action days we have not even begun to break int the mail in the warehouse and the cycle repeats meaning that the original strike action mail is now over a week old. Repeat this process for a third week and you can see how Redceo's parcel was delayed by a month.
This was a management decision and not a workforce decision.

Ispy, Heathrow is always busy but I have been sent photos of a very clear looking Greenford Hub plus empty looking mail centres at Jubilee and Swindon.

Jimmy Jimmy, I didn't say that everybody should have not used the Royal Mail but what I am saying is that the public knew the strike dates well in advance so knew that there could be delays.
Large letter services; I believe that our competitors deliver large letters as I am currently looking at several Amazon large letters in my hallway that arrived this afternoon..
As for standard DL and C5 letters, our competitors obviously don't think that it's worth their while in providing this product as letters are in decline. Indeed our CEO is keen to remind us that RM UK is now a parcels business and this has been borne out over the last four weeks as letter box collection mail has been largely ignored in order to concentrate on parcels with our sorting machines only being utilised for eight or nine hours a day instead of the usual twenty three during December.
I believe that a couple of years ago someone on this forum posted "who waits in for a letter anyway these days as we have email and social media ".

Ispy, we had an outbuilding with around 750-800 full Yorks of packets (which had been there for at least ten days) on Tuesday afternoon. By Wednesday morning they had vanished into thin air so I can only assume that one of our parcel hubs had taken them? Of course there are conspiracy theorists who think that they were loaded onto trailers overnight and are now parked up in a transport depot waiting to be released back into the system on Tuesday night but I don't believe that the business would be complicit in an act of wilful delay of the mail ;-)
Another thing to note is that our MCM, who has been missing in action since the first week of December, turned up at midnight last night to preside over a raffle draw for the night shift. Apparently he was all smiles and laughter.
How bizarre?.....

I can also confirm that none of our customers mail is being held up at my home mail centre as it was clear as of 4am this morning. This also applies to at least seven other mail centres that I am regularly in contact with ranging from small mail centres to large ones.

Redceo, I have not taken leave of my senses at all. I am fully aware that 17.4 million voted to leave the EU and only 16.1m voted to stay with 12.9m not voting meaning that only 37.4% of all registered voters actually voted to leave. If that had been a union balloting for industrial action it would never have met the criteria.... just saying.....
I would also berate those who didn't vote and then whinged about the outcome.
For the record, I voted to remain on the grounds of "better the devil you know" and as an advocate for democracy I would never claim that "we was cheated" however, I genuinely think that it's quite funny that many of those in industries such as fishing who believed the spin of taking back control of our waters whilst having the same free trade agreements and who now can't get their produce to EU markets in time to be considered "fresh", those who wanted to keep Johnny Foreigner out of the UK and are now moaning that those menial jobs that Johnny Foreigner used to do aren't getting done and also those who wanted to "take back control of our borders" only to realise that it's not quite as simple as originally thought and are challenged by the EU over certain legalities, are not happy with the way the current government has actually failed to get Brexit done.
