It would appear there’s a little bit of momentum building as we head towards next week’s update.

All figures are rounded to make the maths easier over the breakfast table….

HBR in the last 12 months has traded from a peak of 320p to a low of 240p…..25% swing

BP….510 to 380p….25% swing

SHEL…2900p to 2400p….17% swing

So either trade the oilies (I don’t) or buy and hold and take the dividend.

The entry point is crucial and with this in mind I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see plenty of blue trades going through on Monday.

Decided to lock in the mega dividend.

In a word…”steady”

If you hold a few funds that give you international diversification, it's easy to find a few that pay quarterly dividends around 3-5% per annum. You're also likely to benefit from growth.

Hold a few FTSE big dividend payers for extra income but the growth will probably be a lot lower than the international funds...just find the right balance...

Lots of macro factors in play at the moment for housing, but that trading update was very strong.

September is traditionally a poor month for equities….unless there’s a US Presidential election…

LGEN pays out over 9% and if held in an ISA does not attract any tax. I haven't seen any bond, cash ISA or anything else that can match what we have here.

The share price will bounce between limits but if you don't need to sell then sit back and collect the payout twice a year.

Very disappointed that the dividend hasn’t increased.

Not invested here but getting to the point where I'm considering adding DGE to the stable.

An obvious headwind is the strengthning of Sterling and Goldman Sachs can see further strengthening over the next twelve months.

My biggest concern are the brands.

Yes Guiness and I instantly recognise Smirnoff, but if I fancy a whisky I'll go for a single malt and that will usually last me 6 months.

Definately think the board should consider buying a quality Chateau brand in France...possibly well protected by French legislation but I'm sure there's a way in.

Hopefully, today’s share price rise is in anticipation of something to be relayed in tomorrow’s update…oil seems to be static around $80

I mainly own dividend stocks and funds for the sole purpose of collecting monies on a regular basis.

My account settings are such that the payments are automatically reinvested and will stay this way until I retire in a few years.

Based upon the above modelling assumptions, I prefer an increase in the divi to share buybacks, all day long.

Fair point about zig zagging may not go down well but oil has been >$80 and look where the sp is.

Board need to listen to brokers, both private and institutional investors and address the debt levels and look at moving the dial on the dividend.

Think they’ll scale back on the share repurchases and will increase the dividend by 5%.

The main thrust will be on reducing the size of the debt.

Everything is cyclical and I can certainly see the merits of buying tracker funds.

However, for those seeking a regular income from dividends then you’re better off with a managed fund.

I’ve got a number of funds paying over 5% which I’d struggle to match on a tracker.

Any world tracker and certainly US focused tracker fund are skewed towards big tech.

Actively managed funds will be back in favour one day…

Seem good figures, very good but no increase in the dividend.

Don’t think the market will like that.

Another nice divi payment due 22nd September…compound the returns and over time the pot gets bigger.
