Long term it can also reduce the total amount that needs to paid out in dividends.

Careful inflation doesn’t erode the cash pile.

Sell up, take the hit if need be and put the money to good use somewhere else.

Operating cash generation up 9% to £705m, IFRS adjusted operating profit jumps 25% to £451m. Interim dividend rises 2.6% to 27.35p.

Solvency II surplus of £3.6B.

Very healthy.

Keep on compounding.

I don’t necessarily see AI being able to develop medicines but I do envisage AI revolutionising personal cancer care treatment for example.

Large sample data sets already exist from which AI can further precision and individualise the treatments.
