The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring financial educator and author Jared Dillian has been released. Listen here.
Morning everyone, nice bright morning here in south Oxfordshire.
Did not do anything sharewise yesterday other than prepare and set up for the monthly regular investments which go out today on interactive today. Did my usual which is top up 2/3 of the smaller holdings I want to increase and pick one of my biggest losers (spoilt for choice here) to do a small average down on. It may not make good sense but it kinda works for me, at least satisfies my need for figures neatness.
T the Hong Kong figure is from yesterday, they were closed on public hols last night.
Good luck for today, not sure it will be a good one?
On the point of the world covid maybe upsetting the markets. It worries me, last time it seemed to take forever for a reaction, seems may be same now. I doubt we will quite see the crash like March 2020 but I guess a W is still possible even though it will be mishaped bit like my writing.
Have to go to Milton Keynes shortly pick up daughter who is returning from Glasgow after finishing uni. Have to say to you all if you have children coming up for university you can do a lot worse than Glasgow, Matilda has loved it. The city, the university and the life even though this last year has been tough. it was better i think finishing in it all rather than starting like those poor students who began in 2020
Hello everyone, good weekend I enjoyed Leicester winning the FA cup! Weather could have been better but was okay most of time.
Have not done much today, some click and collect then researching some dead ends and maybe's.
Just bought some TWD which I am a bit later than ideal on, only got £475 leaving me room to average down if falls back at all, will probably build if it keeps going up.
Thanks T for advice on selling, have not done it yet but may well go with BARC as I have no better reasons to sell and your point is good.
I am think of getting some Williams-Sonoma a us company, I really like the stuff done by west elm which they own. Their price has gone up hugely on good results recently so I have to think on it before diving in as may not continue?
Mixed day for me, am liking the steady progress of FGP, but not liking the fall from grace of CWR, or come to that ANTO, though ANTO has had a good run overall. Will buy some CWR in regular invest day in ii, on Weds, risking a one-er!
Not a terrible day but hope you all did better!
Pretty good day here for me and passive investing.
CWR and BB recovering well, MKS going strong ready to swap into SBRY, maybe. FGP slowly getting there. Lots of other long termers doing well.
My personal ISA at all time high!
Good weekend everyone, no F1 but some football, hard to call cup final, both teams been in good form. I think I'd like Leicester but Chelsea are my local team in London, though you'd never catch me there! Well only when my team are visiting, which isn't often from league one (maybe even championship as in play offs)
Good afternoon, I am not buying anything right now don't have much shares money to hand.
I need to sell some stuff. a to get some money and as I have far too many different shares. I run 3 and a bit portfolio's. My ISA, my wife Stana's ISA and my daughter matilda's ISA, the bit is the remnants of my original portfolio which is less than £1k now. I once tried to stick to 8 shares in p/f's and 5 in Matilda's as it is much smaller. I now have 39 different shares, 20 in my ISA which is getting out of control. So I need to consolidate and sell some off, to maybe 10 as I saw suggested here in each p/f. I am handing over Matilda's p/f to her as she finishes university this year, so it's a bit of a graduation present.
I am rubbish at selling so this could be a long drawn out process ... I am already bored just writing this out, let alone doing it.
That TWD I mentioned briefly the other day has done well, I have not bought any of course.
What I might do is present you with some choices to sell and then you can pick your favourites.
What might you make of BARC, AV., INVP or LSEG ... don't feel under any obligation to go along with this, but if you have opinion I will value it.
n
Morning, been out this morning to Oxford taking wife for 2nd vaccination. That's us as a household all complete now. at least for now as next will be boosters.
Saw O's post early this morning before I went and that was enough to warn of today's continuing losses, which again look to be in thousands. When did I get into a world where I would lose thousands in a day and not really bat an eyelid?
I started investing in early 2008 and I remember waking up in Oct/Nov and thinking what have I done with what was then all my families money. I was horrified, now I maybe have a bit of a knot in my stomach but just accept tings. I suppose you know it will all come back, only problem is sometimes you think will it be in my lifetime (not really being morbid ... its just how it is). Anyway hopefully will survive this blip, hopefully only a blip.
One share I have owned on and off since 2008 and has done be well is Alumasc. that is my only properly green share today, and in that process has become my largest holding passing PUMA. So thankyou ALU for the bright spot in this cloudy rainy day. Good luck this afternoon to you all and me!
Overall another loss making day for me. Although the north American AMD and BB's have pushed me into the loss. Their day not ended yet! Without them it is break even, loss in my ISA balanced by wifes and daughters gains. FGP looking promising. CWR looking a bit sad.
The others here and there. Need a good day tomorrow to cheer me up and also to be able to sell something for some funds to reinvest in some better shares.
Maybe N's idea of calling me small n is the way to go. K or Kev for Kevin are okay, but small n could be easier, maybe?
Big N, most PB idea's have not bought through them.Hhave waited and bought on market so I am in control of amount and price and have shares right way etc.. There usually is a time in the week after PB offer where price is almost the same and sometimes less.
Afternoon everyone, today is OK for me but nothing special. Firstgroup going quite well, maybe something to do with possible bugger special div than the touted 30p. I already held these in wifes portfolio and sold a few off at a good price, but missed the recent high. I have then bought back similar amount at 77. This was after sale of US stuff the special div is for. So will that special div have an ex date before or around time of that sale? Or will it be around the time they announce what that dividend might be? If still to come these could be a good buy at 77 as in theory you will get a fairly good return of over 30p a share quite quickly and still have your shares at whatever value they end up. If that happened I would think that should be a fair bit more than 77 less 30+, but if so it seems to good to be true>
M CWR is Ceres Power, I got them because of Primary Bid. I had a little patch where I was almost using PB as a tipster, buying after their offer, close to that offer price This seemed to work well for CWR and Yellow Cake they were both quickly up 10% or so. Got GSF (Gore Street) as well which has stuck where I bought it. I then stopped this strategy as I was low on funds. Since CWR has crashed down so now it does not look such a clever ploy anyway. I'm not ruling out doing it again though.
CWR is a hydrogen fuel cell producer, I am not entirely sure how all that works but am interested in Hydrogen as it has such clean emmission. CWR also has a tie in with Bosch, so I have heard, this makes me feel they are on the right track despite their fall, so have av'd down and sitting tight.
Watched a webinar last by AJBell one company TWD looks pretty interesting. Lightening and shrinking wiring through printed circuits, this should be a winner in EV's, planes and other equipment that compactness might be as important as weight. I missed the bit on Yellow Cake which is why I wanted to watch, I am the most disorganised person.
AMD and BB both up over 1% in North America and Xiaomi up 5.5% in HK, so I am feeling confident about today. I know they are all techy, but usually that bodes well for rest of market. They also knocked back a few quid off my losses yesterday
V £430 inc. fees, should have read, so was investment including fees, I don't get involved in anything but simple buying and selling.
No CFD or spread betting wizzes for me! I have enough trouble with the simple stuff as you can see.
Hi, late start for me today, looked at my big old losses.
Thought maybe I would buy £500 more of biggest loser checked and that turned out to ENT.
And I came to London today as I had to go to Guys and you've guessed it to ENT dept.
This is a perfect combination for me to buy a share who needs DYOR!
So clicked on buy and bought 30 (had sold 30 on 27/4...so was kind of rebalancing)
£430 in fee's that was good as had looked at sale and was £504 in.
Went ahead and then could see I had missed ENT shares and bought DUNelm.
We'll see now if that was a good bit of luck as I will leave I am building the DUN position and to a degree I had enough ENT.
I do need to concentrate or I will be DUN up by myself
Over 3k loss across all my p/f today, not that sure things will bounce tomorrow either, but lets hope.
Good afternoon and evening all.
