The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring financial educator and author Jared Dillian has been released. Listen here.
Morning, weather still seems a little grey, though it should be better soon.Shares up a little.
I bought some HTG this morning, probably as a long term, but will see.
Well done N on FOG and EUA you seem to be having a good run which is nice.
Best for today and week to everyone
Afternoon, things looking pretty much even stevens for my shares today unless we have a late swing.
Market bearing out the neither here nor thereness you all have been alluding to.
Bought some more BAN.MI for you to add to companies you have never heard of. It's Basic Net on Milan which owns Superga, Kappa and few others, I am hoping for it to become fashionable, who knows, not a 67yo git probably.
It's in my wifes portfolio which is lagging well behind mine, they were pretty even 2-3 years back and despite putting more money into Stana's there is now a big gap. Mine up maybe 60-70% and hers perhaps 30-35%. So am piling in a bit more and concentrating investing in hers to even things up, hopefully she will catch me up rather than I fall into her clutches. Have I done that before, was it a good idea? Maybe!
Anyway can see some blue sky from the window, so maybe take the dog for a walk.
Am returning to work at a little college in Slough next week for 3 days as a cover one of the other teachers has gone missing, having mixed feelings, but hoping it will be good for me.
Good evening to you all.
Morning, another pretty gloomy day weatherwise. I suppose it's Autumn almost.
P/f's looking good so far up 1% or so.
Might buy some Intel later to keep my transatlantic holdings at a level, have sold some BB. and AMD.
Not much else in idea's at moment, but as things have been fairly steadily going up don't necessarily need to many bright idea's to lose money on. Was thinking maybe some RR.
Nice day everyone
Evening all as dixon might say.
N, I read UK likely to hold on 3rd vax till more evidence and then maybe only do the vulnerable over 50's. We'll have to wait and see.
So Afghanistan is finally over for the US, now just the Afghans left to sort things out and maybe the odd stray Pen left. It seems such a mess.
GP was a wash out literally, shame as George Russel starting 2nd might have produced some fireworks. Also Lando starting from pits would have been interesting as he had been so quick till his crash. I was looking forward to it.
Sold my recent dip into BB. at a reasonable profit, still have a holding and it may yet go higher. Yellow cake had a good day and a few others too. So overall a little up.
Have had an earache for a week now, getting fed up with it. Weather has been crap too.
Things can only get better, maybe!
Morning, another reasonable start to the day for my portfolio's.
I sold off a few MKS the other day, kind of wish i hadn't now, but am still on a selling roll.
That makes me think about Charlie Watts, on R4 this morning they said Keith Richards said that Stones were a rock band, and Charlie was the roll.
I was still at school when Let it Bleed came out, what an album still an all time favourite, and the first I bought. I used to play the intro to Gimme Shelter incessantly on on our old radiogram.
Missed a good rise on BB. last night, was doing tax returns, would have sold some had I seen, hopefully won't be to late today.
Well done on ABDX, V. I remember now when I looked at them they actually weren't from nearby Abingdon but somewhere else entirely. Wasn't exactly why I didn't buy but maybe?
Ah well back to the tax, done mine which was simple as I did practically no income work, just the wife's to sub now. I actually ended up with a chunky rebate being due, as I withdrew some pension.
Nice day, all.
Morning all, quite cool here and cloudy, I thought we were supposed to be getting bak to summer? Cloud is thin though so maybe will soon improve.
N no broker I have used does much more than straightforward sell and buy orders. It is an interesting idea, as I sometimes do similar trading stage by stage.
Another good start today after Asia doing well overnight.
I am still looking to sell I think, my targets being mainly BB. and INVP and then anything else I can I think the term is topslice!
I wish you all a good day.
Hello everyone, not such a bad day for my shares today. Week though a different story, big losses yesterday and some before. Still overall not as bad as it might have been. MKS done well for me today.
Did not do any selling this week or much buying either. Was going to sell some MKS at one point but never did luckily. Bought bb. just a few to top up and sell if there is a shoot up. Also bought a few top ups on regular investing.
My mum has improved this week too, better she is up than my shares.
You have 3 oil stocks, so I might start by selling a couple of them. PSX maybe 1st as US market is kinda higher than UK. Lucky dip then for Shell or BP. Might be worth hanging in there with IAG but also might not! Lloyds you have done well on and AML, so why sell them? You should maybe check on ex dividend and announcement dates for bit more timing of decisions!
Hi everyone, good week I hope for you all.
Steady week for my shares and a difficult week for me as my 93 year old mum is unwell.
Still she has made it through so far, but it is hard for her now and not so much of a life at all.
It's a big job caring for your parent/s, I am glad we have taken it on, but it's tough in ways you don't imagine!
Anyway life goes on, I have done a little more selling this week some CPI I bought a few weeks back as a day trade, for a month trade more like still made a sensible profit.
Then today sold 10% of my AV. a long term hold that has a quite high (for me) overall value, so looking to realign things, maybe.
Premiership football back tonight will be interested in Brentfords 1st match against an old foe in the Arse. It's funny how things go, last time Brentford in top div their last match was against Arsenal. Good luck to them tonight, though I have 2 Arsenal players in my fantasy side.
Might buy some BB. tonight have placed a little order but price not quite achieved yet. Was thinking about the HOOD, but that has now gone up, hopefully enough for you T, so anyway have left for now.
Good weekend everyone, test match and football to watch, should be good, though work to do in the test.
Was listening to BOO CEO either today or I think yesterday. They are trying to get a more favourable appearance as far as throwaway fashion and employee care goes, and addressing both. Better late than never but time will tell whether they can convince.
Morning all, nice and sunny here at least for now.
T I see the HOOD picked up a bit yesterday.
I sold nothing and bought nothing.
Markets looking a bit undecided today, I think we might have a good day yet will see.
Hope you all do anyway
You need to get your fantasy football teams sorted in next couple of days, if any of you do?
Hi everyone hope you are all well.
I was not best last week but am feeling better today, hopefully that will continue.
CPI making a bit of a recovery which will help my mistimed buy at 39p (top up now might become a long day trade)!
Did a bit of selling last week also bought some more TWD which has done well and I am hoping for more from.
Also bought some Intel as I guess I think they have almost been in AMD's shadow, in share performance at least. I think they will get stronger quicker now than AMD.
Sold 10% of my AMD, PUMA, and some others I can't remember now.
Funny how I like to sell the most successful shares I have and sit on the rubbish in hope.
A habit I have got stuck with, it doesn't always p5rove useless but has on many occasions.
Am thinking I will do a little more selling this week and give myself some room for manouvre, CPI could be one if it gets a bit more.
Useless piece of info. but I will say it anyway. When Neil Woodford went up in the air I read he had bought a lot in some Irish medical firm called Prothera, listed in US. It had cost dear as it had not performed as he expected. I kind of felt NW is not complete fool this could be something to dabble/invest in. I put it on my watch list and few a few months looked at it fluctuating between 10 and 12 dollars, thinking I'll get some of them next week. Never did, as i bought INTC which was on my watchlist I notcied it sitting at 53 dollars, I have forgotten it for 6 months. Too late for Mr Woodford and no good to me.
I am not concentrating enough on things I guess.
Anyway enough of me bemoaning my ineptness, have a good week y'all.
Which reminds me where is m, I remember he had not been well last time he posted, hope he is just on hols or something.
Hi everyone, have struggled to find much enthusiasm for shares this week.
Though it has not been so bad as probably clawed back half of drop from the week or so before.
Have had AMD my biggest holding helping with strong figures and rise.
Interesting T and N the possible impending doom, I have been feeling that for a few weeks now,
and had been beginning to think maybe otherwise. As N says there has been a lot built around good results.
Results that seem good largely because they are being compared to last figures that were so bad from Covid.
There is also the lack of convincing control of the coronavirus and its variations, the worry they might yet run amok again.
So I don't know am often thinking I will have a big sell out before things fall.
It took the market long enough to catch up with warnings the first time, so maybe we will crash again.
I kind of don't think so, but think I will be cashing out some stuff next week as a buffer.
Nice weekend to you all.
One last thing I saw the RNLI had been being heckled by some people for rescuing migrants from the channel. I find this astonishing, as I guess whatever that idiot Farage may have said. These people rescue endangered souls from the sea, they should only get our admiration and maybe the odd donation, like N's. How can we look on anyone, whoever they are, wherever they are from, whatever the circumstances and not believe they deserve rescuing from danger!
Morning everyone, and I'll add my birthday best wishes for T.
My sister got back to Texas for Friday all went well except the flight was delayed nearly 5 hours.
In the end it suited her as found it easier to adjust back some jetlag getting in later.
Had great weather while she was here and we all enjoyed ourselves despite the restrictions.
Dropped her at LHR on Thursday and went on to London as I had a bone biopsy at Guys on Friday.
Something I would would not recommend, it is quite painful, will see from results whether it was worth it.
Things looking a little grim for my shares right now, though have small bright spot a half holding in CRDA.
Still well off my recent highs, with Xiaomi doing particularly poorly
Did buy a couple of things last week PMG and AGM which have done nothing.
Some good results in Olympics, Tom Daley especially, my daughter was selected for diving training at Crystal Palace about same time as he came on the scene. So he has always been a family favourite. She also was and is a very good swimmer and was a lifeguard at Wimbledon pool and met Adam Peaty when he did a promo visit. So it was a bit of a double for us, even if admittedly tenuous.
That's all from me for now, no plans waiting to see if market can decide where it is heading before either some selling or risking a bit more capital from my saving reserves.
Hope you all do well.
n
Morning everyone, as O and T have said not good start today.
Sister here and passed both tests, so now she is free of quarantine for last few days of time here.
Not much to report from her as tips for trans-atlantic trips, it has all gone OK just extra stressful and costly.
Has been a bad week or two for my shares, from highs a fortnight ago am down maybe 6-7%.
Hopefully things will get better this week, but not at all sure they will.
Lovely day and already hot!
Good luck to you all.
Morning, spoke too soon about p/f's doing okay, today is looking pretty ugly.
T and V thanks, everything good so far, sleeping arrangements sorted, sister is on flight and well on way lands at Heathrow 11:20 and can see is on schedule. She even had time to watch the football before going to airport, which cheered her up like us all I expect.
She has had to get vaccinated up, and she has already had Covid, she has had to pre arrange and pay for 2 tests I think for 5th and 8th days of 10 day quarantine at home. If those tests prove negative then she need not continue quarantine. (Not sure what happens if they are positive ... especially for getting back etc.) I think that's it for coming here, she will have things to be in order to go back which I will let you know about. A friend is picking her up and dropping her here so we will see her at :30 maybe will have to see how long ot takes to get through customs etc..
Good day to everyone
Morning everyone,
m hope you are on the mend and getting better, CPI does not seem to be doing anything to cheer you up.
It's a busy time for me at the moment, my daughter has moved back into our London flat (and one time home) from her uni time in Glasgow. She is now here at my mums in Oxon with boyfriend in tow. We have my sister flying in from Houston tomorrow, and have to fit everyone into mums 3 bedrooms. I have been using the little room (thats bedroom not toilet!) as a study so am going to have to move my desk and junk out and set up beds so it will be a hard day.
V if my sister experiences anything that might help with your planned Florida trip I will post it. She is already pretty fed up with form filling in, booking tests, vaccinations and changes in policies always hanging over her first trip back in nearly 2 years. The flying on it's own is usually enough to stress her out, so she has had a tough time of it.
Anyway on shares not much new really, sold a piece of FGP on Monday that I had bought in late April, bought some more TWD with that money. Looking out for something to dayish trade but nothing jumping out at me.
My portfolios seem to be pretty good overall, hitting highs either Monday or yesterday, they are a little of that now. Some big holdings doing well lately ALU and PUMA in particular.
Boit worried on how things are shaping up in China tech, and my Xiaomi shares, the DiDI (is that its name ride hailing thing) is upsetting thimngs. The balance of anything Chinese and western reaction is just not good or stable. I think I will hoep for a rally and sell up these shares. It's only a couple or 3 months back I was thinking of delving into more, along lines of Wuling Motors and Haier. This plan is now out for me.
Hope we all have good days health and sharewise
Morning everybody, it's Friday again, something T would normally point out, where is he?
Never sold anything yesterday, today I should sell my FGP day from end of April, I am working on days from some remote and slowly spinning planet. Thats my answer if you say what planet is he on?
Anyway things a little up this morning so hopefully good end of week will be had by all, my weeks are earth time.
o did hear about the Hariboo thing, this would have been a disaster for my daughter a few years back, but I think she has kicked the habit now. I do have a HGV license, it's called an LGV now, another thing ruined by EU, bring back the old little red HGV, then we will have the drivers I'm sure!
Good day everyone
