I responded to the above title a few hours ago, and have just re-read it "Earnings out tomorrow" has there really been any 'EARNINGS". My interest will be in "how much of the half year £48m" remains, bearing in mind we are 4 months past the year end.

Every report issued is full of positive news for the FUTURE that has been the trend for several years. The EXPECTATIONS of the CEO have a history of never being met, we know that and the market know it also. Whether it is Brexit, the pandemic or the cost of living crisis there will an excuse. They have built an expensive infrastructure, partners ABB have seen their investment in AFC fall by 60%, there have been no sales/contracts for the latest product (Power Tower), there has been no advance report on activity in the year to 31/10/22 - Off to the shed for my tin hat.

We enter the 5th Month of the current financial year - We still await the outcome of the financial year ended 31 October 2022. This is quite shameful.

Exercise of any options would need to be reported, and at this stage of the game would that not imply insider dealing?

James - From where I'm sitting that is a bit of an understatement, and it is not over yet. From feeling rather smart rounding up my holding last Friday, today I feel as if I have been "mugged". Just hope there is no "kicking" to follow.

Well they thought it was a good idea to invest in these at 65p so why don't they do us all a favour and take out the rest at (lets be generous) 40p a share. I vote yes.

Shares values rarely reflect the "book value of the business" tell me one that does?
The whole purpose of BB's is to enhance shareholder value the 2022 scheme did not (47p at start 41p at end - prices rounded) the new scheme will start shortly at circa 50p lets see what the price is when it concludes. I would prefer a share consolidation, 68bn+ shares is crazy and encourages day traders.

Thanks for your reply. The last LLOY buy back started on 25 Feb 22 the weighted average share price paid then was 47.08p the scheme concluded on 11 Oct 22 and the weighted average share price paid then was 41.51. I think this indicates no real value for shareholders, though and additional dividend payment to shareholder would be frowned upon by society in general.

Guess it will all become clear when we get the y/e update, clearly AFC are having trouble deciding what actually happened in the y/e 31/10/2022.

So a further £2bn to be spent of buy backs. As well as being a long term LLOY shareholder I also hold Centrica (CNA) both in very different sectors but both (imo) have performed (as investments) really poorly for a number of years. The energy crisis has transformed CNA and in November 2022 they reintroduced dividend payments (a whole 1p) and were heavily criticised in the media they also announced a £250m buy back program. That started on 16th Nov 22 and the first BB was at 85.9595p per share, the program continues and yesterday the BB at 104.1299p per share - Analysts have set price targets up to 130p for the shares and CNA have just announced a further £300m of BB's for future months. LLOY are due to commence their BB program in the coming days - todays results, the increased dividend and the positive future outlook landed on a day the market suffered from yesterdays US market turmoil. Analysts have set targets up to 75p for LLOY which, historically are reasonable. Hopefully the BB's will have a similar impact to that enjoyed over at CNA. I would be interest to hear what impact the last LLOY share BB scheme had on the LLOY share price - if anyone has that info.

REALLY - Well perhaps you can share what "you are seeing" with the rest of us so that we may become happy with our investment - I await your input.

Decent results, good divi increase, strong forward looking statement, overly cautious on impairments all reported on the day after a sharp decline in the US which drives all markets.

I am also holding to the bitter end, rounded my holding up a tad last Friday and regret that slightly. Overall my expectations are declining, but I am open to a surprise. Back to the chores.

DK89UK - I agree with what you are saying. I have questioned why they are retaining the shares in treasury rather than cancelling them. Replacing cash for shares does not enhance shareholder value, maybe they have a plan, time will tell.

DK89UK - The initial BB program was for 5% to be bought back over 6.5 months once complete a further 5% will then be bought back with a new program. Both programs should result in a steadily rising share price.

Centrica plc (the "Company") announced in a Trading Update on 10 November 2022 a plan to commence a share repurchase programme of up to 5% of its issued share capital (the "Programme").



The Company today announces the commencement of this Programme which is to be conducted over the next 6.5 months to buy back shares of 614/81 pence each (the "Shares") up to an aggregate price of up to £250,000,000 (exclusive of associated fees, expenses and stamp duty), representing an amount equal to the aggregate value of approximately 5% of the Company's issued share capital at today's share price.
