PL the asymptotic is real problem with the virus... I feel incredibly disappointed if that hasn’t been considered. It has been known for such a long time. It shows how critical ongoing testing will need to be during further trials and until vaccines are proven to prevent spread.

But my patience with AS is wearing thin ... not quite at the MFM levels but I think shareholders are due some realistic timescales.

So my kid is isolating now. Other families in her classes have tested positive. All the kids have is tummy aches and 37.8 fevers for short periods. Parents have had mild symptoms or none. What % of people have the virus but no symptoms. My question for these trials is whether they have been testing for the asymptomatic cases or not. If not these figures might be quite wrong and misleading. If they were testing regularly then surely there would be some idea about the ability to spread with the vaccine. I feel like this isn’t the end of the story ...

Doh this is exactly the problem. You have to watch it all day. If you can’t set up stop losses that work then it is a pointless game to try and play. We know news has to come soon. Is Al terrible at getting PIs hopes up - yes. Will he come through? With housegate I would be certain that he must be very very confident.

The thing here that everyone seems to agree on is that they DO NOT KNOW enough. Any rollout will be essentially another trial. Now I would hope that they would want to be testing a significant number of this vaccinated and not vaccinate to further understand. Additionally those that are unvaccinated will need testing with symptoms and ideally those isolating as contacts will need testing to reduce isolation time ...

I think it is dangerous to parrot Deeks with regards to Innova. You run the danger of discounting all LFTs unless it is determine why it might be so unsuccessful. LFTs increase testing accessibility and I think it is hugely important that we get testing right and if that means that everyone tests once a week rwhen they have symptoms then I think that is a good thing even if S&S are affected by lay users. Education is important - as it is with a number of elements to the fight against this virus. How many people actually wash their hands now that didn't before (so gross). I think if Avacta are successful there will no reason for the government to not switch to Avacta and every test will be bought. Buy British will be Boris's chant.

It has and I’m sure there is a direct link to high level government there... the sticking point is clearly TT and clinical validation. Once complete and successful then I’m fairly sure that Boris will dump other non British tests. I don’t see the market disappearing with vaccine news etc... the biggest risk is the quality of the product and how easy to use... I don’t think instructions will be a sticking point - using urine from first thing in the morning is a common prerequisite for other kinds of testing so I think a lay person can be told to use the test 1 hour after eating and after drinking 250ml of water... it really isn’t that hard. There will always be idiots but testing is part of the solution - even if it removes 50% of the infectious from spreading it we get the R under 1 and we can resume the economy. If we get a quicker more simple diagnosis, the vulnerable can get early treatment.

I think I agree Doh - the impact will be lower than the last one... but unless there is clear direction from the government with regards to testing or an decent update from Avacta, there will likely be some impact. I think a decent update will give a significant boost.

Really interesting interview with Fauci from the FT. So there are 4-5 more vaccines that he thinks are going to be ready to publish figures in the coming weeks... and that the increase in cases will be shortening the time it takes for these trials to complete. He said that he was very surprised by the results from Pfizer (that it was 90% effective). However critically he also says that this is only part of the solution and it isn't going to come quickly. There is light at the end of the tunnel and public health measures should be adhered to rather than people thinking it will be solved shortly. The interviewer asked about whether the vaccine would need boosters, and he said that it was difficult to say at this stage, but he wouldn't be surprised as the immunity for other corona viruses (colds) is not long lived. If that is the case then it will need to monitored well as new vulnerable populations will be be entering the cohort as a matter of course (i.e. we haven't killed off a significant proportion of the vulnerable that the overall impact of the virus is lower).

I can see testing being required for many years - particularly in closed environments where the vulnerable would be (hospitals, GP Surgeries, cruises, care homes etc. Also the government will want to be testing a significant proportion of the population as a matter of course to keep track of prevalence. I would imagine given the emergency approval for vaccines I think there will be significant testing required for those that have been vaccinated as we would still expect 5-10/100 to still be infected. Probably also need to check there isn't a possibility of spreading even if vaccinated as this is unlikely to be known yet. I would also suspect that there will be a selection of the population who is vaccinated that would or should be tested repeatedly to further prove the effectiveness of any vaccine. What I do think is that the Pfizer vaccine is likely to be de-prioritised if other's don't need artic storage... and thus why Albert dumped 62% of his shares - he should be jailed... what an absolute a-hole.

Finally - Fauci was much more practical that our friend Mr Bell and I think we should take some comfort from that. We are still in for a bumpy ride SP wise and whatever has caused this level of delays to BAMS in particular should be reviewed as it is absolutely a s h ! t show.... which reminds me... this is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time Enjoy!

Bottom line - if you think that all these things haven't been considered and yet Al has bought a house risking insider trading and that manufacturers have been signed up without doing proper swot analysis and mitigation factors then please just sell. Avacta have not given any indication that there is a problem. There would likely be 'instructions' in ANY home test. Many people will have failed tests due to user error. But guess what - there is a control line to ensure that a failed test is failed. There could be false positives. PCR test confirm if needed (maybe asymptomics only?). Lots of ways to make testing effective in controlling the virus and huge market whatever way you look at it. I am not saying Al doesn't need to be given grief for many frustrations...

I thought the affimers were binding to the spike of the c-19 protein - and that the spike was what made the protein unique. Doesn't that imply that hamburger (or otherwise) protien wouldn't have the spikes? Anyone scientific out there?

There will always be 'instructions' for getting the right sample and that will be part of the lay user study. I am sure monkshood or CA or Ophidian said that a saliva sample included a swill step. One thing for sure is that I would think that this would have been part of the prototype process. I am not sure how the antibody reagents would react to ham versus affimers... do affimers like a McDonald's? Who can we ask?
