Call to Action25 Jul 2018 01:00
Today, 24th July 2018, Mr Corbyn issued a call for manufacturing to be brought back to the UK. Does that sound like Mr Trump ? Many British companies have decided over the centuries that the profits they make from employing people in places like cotton and woollen mills working their socks off would be well spent in building similar mills abroad to do exactly the same work but for less pay. Eureka ! greater profits! The City of Manchester had the Ship Canal built to convey the materials from Liverpool. Other "Industrialists" procdeeded to copy these enterprises and export jobs abroad --- ERGO Dyson, held up as a smart business man. Mr Murdoch of the SUN came from Australia to make a fortune behind barbed wire clad premises, then skipped to the USA with his cash and became a naturelised cittizen of that country. Thanks to his British workers, did he say ? If this country is to maintain any kind of stability and, perhaps, prosperity we should at least attempt to make manufacturing, in all its senses, flourish in this country. We do, surprisingly, have people who can design, plan, build and present projects to create many of the means, needs and satisfaction of society. We cannot grow certain foods but our farming community are diligent in providing many of the basic necessities, and our manufacturers can provide the wherewithall to buy foods such as oranges and other fruits not available here. This is surely the essence of good business practice. Three cheers for bringing back manufacturing to the UK. Yours, Max.
