More on nuclear. Whilst teaching at a college in Hyde, Cheshire I took a group of students to Fairey Engineering who were very busy in the nuclear engineering industry. We looked at a column built by them of various sections stood vertically, about 200 foot high, The lower part in a pit about 40 foot deep. The material was all stainless steel with flanges joining each section that were bolted together. It was undergoing inspection from an independent company and would then be disassembled ready for transport to Windscale, I believe. They told us that on re-assembly on site all the fastenings, nuts, bolts and washers would be welded in place, again after inspection. The welding was to ensure that there would not be any possibility of fastenings , etc becoming loose and faling off to disrupt the processings when the plant was activated. How can someone rid us of such items in 100 days ? Yours, Max.

Thanks for your reply -- rid the country in three months, NO WAY. A colleague of mine at college and I visited Sellafield every year for six years with our students and saw it grow from the ground to the finished article. At the final visit we had to wear special boots covered in plastic so we could walk on the stainless steel flooring. We saw what the welding engineer called the best welding system in the world. We examined X-rays of faulty welding that had occurred ocassionaly when the set up had been wrong. If a welder, on his periodic test did produce a faulty weld he was dismissed immediately. I believe you and other colleagues have consistently insisted we have other channels for revenue - perhaps Investors Chronicle was saying the improvement in revenues were company wide not concentrated on one sector. Trying to take in all the valuable information from colleagues - Assuming Mr Spinks wants to supply Poland with the first fruits of the Coalswitch plant in NL, as suggested may already be there, What amount, tonnage wise, woukd be seen as a shipload ? There would need to be some arrangement made for Cobant to receive the "Stuff" and utilise it. It would appear that the handiest favourable decision would be for NL to give approval and we could then build a plant there to produce, say. 10 tonnes a day of Coalswitch and then send a shipload to Poland for them to hit the start button to show their government and people and EURO that we are in business !!!! Scot --- I see the government has designated the North East of Scotland for one of the favoured places for a launch site. It is a wild and rough climate up there ! My wife and I drove along that coast and it was WHET ! beyond description. Thank you for your rapid response. Dr Deakin been with us seven months, is the work shaping up OK ? I knew we had a factory in Banbury, lovely little town, once fought over by the Cavaliers and Roundheads near a certain bridge, also home to a stone circle which a cleaning lady at a town centre hotel told us we would not be able to count how many stones there were. My late wife and I ran around the circle in February snow whilst our son photographed us in black and white film. The King stone is seperate down the road. Three Nuclear subs will take a long time and lots of cash to build. No government is likely to pause that kind of work. Why do people think the Labour Party is not interested jn safeguarding their own country ? Did they not fill the ranks when needed ? The firgures I quoted came, I think, from Halfords explanatory pamphlets about the tyres they sell. Quite obviously, a seller such as them will not want to exaggerate the posibble mileage achievable so as not to be thought of trying to obtain commercial advantage in their product offerings. Since there were a number of companies named in each range, there could possibly be variations in the forecast mileage and they would not want to seem to be hoodwinking customers looking for the best returns in tyre life.
