Hello Lucky O and Trek.24 Aug 2018 01:22
I too am a remainer, perhaps because of my age, I wanted some settlement that would avert the terrible wars that Europe has endured in its recent past. One century ago, though we didn't know it the first world war was drawing to a close. This was followed by a most devastating disease, Influenza, across much of Europe, and helped to take away even more of the poeple needed to revive the continent. The Versailles Treaty, led by the USA President proved a disaster for many poeple. The Kurds lost their country, Mesopotamia disappeared, almost unbelievable sanctions were imposed on Germany, causing massive starvation and worthless currency. The League of Nations that was set up was toothless, and the world continued to have wars over possessions such as italy Annexing Albania, then Abyssinia, and nobody objecting, it seems. The well predicted rise of Hitler and his threats to all mankind was allowed to progress. Germany was allotted the Olympic Games in 1936 and Hitler hated Jesse Owen, the American Sprinter. And the English football team raised their arms in the Nazi Salute before their game. Everybody ws scared of the nazis. Thankfully they lost after a tremendous struggle. General de Gaulle bravely and contraversially helped to set tup he European Market, to which we were denied admittance ! Something had to take hold and we managed to join under Ted Heath. In a nutshell what do we DO next March ??Yours, Max.
