None of this argument seems to take into account how many properties are being lost to buy-to-let? Most major cities in the UK now have a huge portion of properties owned solely for renting out on AirBnB, for example, which presumably has a large effect on the market.

The fact is that while the population of the UK hasn't drastically increased in the last decade, the supply of ownable property stock has dwindled. I would strongly wager that this has a strong correlation with the number of secondary property ownership increasing.

The solution to the current problem is to make owning more than one property less lucrative. No one needs to own a dozen flats in a city. Of course you only need a solution if you have a problem, but I imagine the Tory government doesn't see it as a problem, particularly as the number of Tory MP landlords as of last year was 90. Again, another shining example of the Tory parties absolute disdain for the working class.

If you look at it statistically/factually (as you should all things tbh) right now is the most peaceful time in human history. Might not seem like it now we have the news in our pocket telling us how bad things are all the time, but you can't argue with data.

There is plenty money floating about, we've never had a more productive and peaceful planet. The problem is that the money is ALWAYS shuffled upwards to the obscenely rich, while the working class and public services get shafted.

Russia produces less oil than Saudi Arabia and the USA, and now every Western country (i.e. the countries with the economies large to buy the bulk of it) won't be buying it from Russia. The USA also produces more gas than Russia, which Europe will soon be buying. This entire war is pushing every developed European country away from gas in a big way and dependency on Russia will be a thing of the past very shortly. And coal? Good grief, wake-up, even China is closing its coal mines. Coal is dead.

The Russian economy is smaller than Italy's and that was before it got sanctioned into oblivion. It will not recover for a decade or more. Russia is over.

The idea that China+Russia is threatening a new world order is just utter fantasy. If anything, this will be a wake-up call that the West needs to move away from dependence on China, which is something that has already been recognized following the covid-related supply-chain issues from 2020. The West will move away from cheap Chinese produce in coming years, it's inevitable, especially now given Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In addition to that, the increasing noveau riche in China mean cheap Chinese labour will become a thing of the past AND their 1-child policies have created an old population, which will have horrendous impacts on their economy in the not-too-distant future. Oh and that's ALSO not even considering how close their economy has been to ****ting the bed over the last year. Forgot about Evergrande already?

NK has been under a fascist dictator rule for decades and what do they have to show for it? Putin is a man that has controlled Russia through murder, repression and theft. He came into power bombing his own citizens, he has silenced political dissidents for decades through imprisonment and murder, and has stole enough wealth from his country to make him (widely considered) one of the richest men on the planet.

It's been priced in since murmurings of the hike started around the start of December. There's a reason the stock price has went up 10-15% since then.

I don't think some people on this forum appreciate that retail are usually several months behind professional investors.
