You can continue to be completely oblivious to the fact that a recession is a result of disasterous economic policies, political folly and self-inflicted wounds like Brexit OR you can just keep blaming migrants and the working class.

You realize its people below the average wage that tend to rent right? In London the average rent is 50% of people's wages. Further north it whittles down to 25%. I've already said that elsewhere.

The entire argument that the working class are poor because they aren't saving properly, or aren't living within their means, or are simply dumb, is a Tory trope that has been going on for decades and is completely based in lies. It simply isn't true. The machinations that keep poor people poor are well documented and studied and probably a little too complex to deep dive into here, but ultimately demonizing the poor is just a deeply immoral thing to do.

Wealthy people have far, far better opportunities at every stage in their life to grow wealth and avoid debt. Just look at the Tory cabinet, 65% of which was privately educated, despite only 7% the general population having had that privilege. Nepotism is a tale as old as time. You have be incredibly naive or incredibly stupid to ignore it.

All that is to say, blaming the poor for being poor is extremely, extremely narrow-minded at best and sheer malicious at worst. It is cruel to pick on the worst off in society in defense of the wealthiest. It is immoral, it is unjust, and it is callous. Everything I'd expect from a Tory voter.

I have never said these were tougher times than the 70s or 80s. I never said people are worse off now than they were back then. Society and world has progressed a huge amount since then. It was half a century ago. If you look back to the 1920s it was likely far worse than the 1970s, but that would be a pointless argument to make.

The broad global progression of society is not an argument against the current state of affairs, it's a complete straw man argument from someone that clearly just wants to pretend right now everything is rosy rather than justify the unjustifiable.

The average Londoner spends 49% of their monthly wage on rent. Across the rest of the country the minimum is 25%. Gas and leccy will take a large chunk out. Food prices are inflated as well. Add on to that the cost of general living, transport costs, insurance, a night out once a week..

Where exactly are people meant to save to "live within their means". People are literally choosing between heating their homes and eating RIGHT NOW.

Millions of people are projected to be in fuel poverty by winter. Is it just poor people "not living within their means", or is there a government in charge entirely apathetic to the hundreds of thousands of households in this country on the absolute line of poverty?

That aside, this whole idea that "people are living beyond their means", which is just Tory-speak for "poor people don't know how to save" completely fails to understand that the average working person struggles to save because 50% of their wage is taken up by rent, 25% is taken up by gas and leccy, and the rest is spent on food.

What is "repugnant and disgusting" are comments from people like Kirsty Alsopp who think if millennials just gave up their Netflix and avocado on toast, they would be able "live within their means".

Of course Russia would have invaded Ukraine if Trump was in power. Putin obviously has kompromat on Trump as was well established by the Steele dossier several years ago. All the intelligence services around the world know Trump is in Putin's pocket, which is why Putin was the ONLY global leader that Trump didn't attack during his time in power.

It's also well documented that Putin manipulated social media heavily before both elections in favour of Trump.

We seem to be living in a different world from each other, because it's fact (not opinion, FACT) that Trump was compromised by Putin some time in the 90s. There is plenty evidence to back it up.

So why in the name of everything holy would any of that prevent Putin doing what Putin wants? If Biden and the rest of the world couldn't stop it happened, why do you think a subservient Trump would?

Russia is losing on all fronts against its neighbour, but you think it would win a fight versus Britain? Get a grip. If Russia launched a single military attack on the UK, NATO would wipe out Russia in a millisecond.

This whole war has exposed how weak Russia is and how United the West is in the face of threat. It's laughable just how much Putin has shot himself in the foot. It's funny how it's always the same people on here that see everything as some "woke lefty" agenda, when anyone with two braincells would realize that the richest man on the planet owning one of the largest social media platforms on the planet is, in fact, a problem.

It's the exact same problem as having people like Murdoch and Rothermere owning the majority of UK newspapers. Independent media is the cornerstone of functioning democracy - that is studied and demonstrated fact. One man owning something is the opposite of independent.

Although if you want to get political about it, it is funny that the news outlets controlled by individuals overwhelmingly tend to be right-wing. It's almost as if it's incredibly lucrative pandering to extremists, bigots and morons that DON'T have two braincells to realize they are being manipulated for profit.

So it really doesn't surprise me that right-wing idiots on here claim this as a victory, because while they supposedly claim to care about free speech, what they really want is authoritarian and totalitarian speech that fits their particular right-wing view.
