Future dividend!!!29 Nov 2020 11:54
Finally a decent rise in the SP last week, but we are still approx 30% down compared to our copper related sector peers. With the coal price recovering to nearly to pre pandemic levels and other industrial metals rising, inventories dropping i expect a sustained rise in the SP. Feburary will be a big month for glencore, the 2020 production report, financials and distribution notice for the expected reinstatment of dividends. For the dividend to be reinstated at the previous value of 0.20 cents, the SP would need to be around >£2.30, which should be achievable given the rising metals prices and (hopefully) reduced debt. Also remember the SP rose 10% in a single day before the last set of financials on the assumption that the previous deferred and current dividend would be paid, but they were cancelled, and the SP tanked. During this period all other miners (copper and non copper) continued to pay dividends, so perhaps not suprising, the Glencore price lagged other related sector peers. With maintained production guidance, reduced debt, positive broker notes, it should be time for the Glencore SP to catch up, especially if a decent dividend is to be announced...
