Unexpected FY trading statement from PH this morning, down nearly 15%.

Added some more this morning at 584, average still above 700 though so hoping to see a significant recovery from here. For me, the six-monthly dividend makes it more likely that this kind of drop can be manipulated XD. I'd much prefer a quarterly income in equal amounts. I have no idea what the final dividend, and therefore the yield, is likely to be here. Perhaps it's just because my quarterly payers tend to be more boring, but I'd take boring here rather than this roller coaster ride.

I appreciate it's not going to be Christmas every day here, TMIP and the shipping industry is in a sweet spot, but for now at least it just keeps getting better and better: "...one vessel in the fleet has been fixed on a one-year time charter and three vessels have been fixed on short-term time charters of less than 3 months. Irrevocable undertaking received to combine Honeycomb Investment Trust with Pollen Street Capital. The new organisation will not qualify as an Investment Trust & will therefore have to create a new PLC, either a reassignment of HONY or create a new holding company.

Can't separate them so holding both, hedging my bets & collecting two nice dividends instead of one.

chique been watching this one for a while, in now at just over 114 with the dividend to come. Will try to add as & when funds allow, looks a solid dividend payer to sit in my portfolio. K

As at 30 June 2021 the Company had a Distributable Reserve of £335.8 million.
Total dividend payments year to 31 Dec 2021 £28.8 million.
So even with no income they can afford the dividend for the next 12 years. However, investors will be looking for improved dividend cover going forward in the hope that EAT will be able to maintain the recent level of dividend growth.

Alternatively, Putin has got European leaders running around like headless chickens whilst he tests their willingness to accept his Nord Stream 2 pipeline and how much they will be prepared to pay for his gas in return for standing down his war machine. Who knows? I don't think it will impact Strix any more than other shares, especially after the recent near-50% fall in the SP.

Yes it is strange but no, I don't think you're missing anything. The market is making an adjustment from growth to value shares but GSF qualifies on either measure so shouldn't really be affected. The SP sometimes takes a dip mid - quarterly dividend cycle (next likely XD date mid-March) but beyond that, make the most of it & add on the dips perhaps? I'm tempted, especially as the yield has crept over the 6% mark...

Hi all, new to BDEV after 14 years holding TW, will gradually sell down half my holding there and move here. I need a steady income in retirement and see this as a better bet than TW now going forward, since they announced their intention to start buying shares back rather than pay a special dividend. By contrast, BDEV are sensibly (in my view) gradually reducing the dividend cover from 2.5X to 1.75X over the next 2-3 years, which should underpin increased yields. Let's see. GLA. K

Almost every day is a news day for TMIP it seems: Dividend confirmation and an excellent trading update; Director share buying; PointState selling down their 8.63% holding (no news yet re the buyer); and delivery of the final seed capital vessel. Once the remaining Handysize to be sold has gone, that will leave a fleet of 30 vessels, of which 28 are Handysize and 2 are Supramax (I think). Management remain confident of strong returns for the next 2-3 years, all things being equal. All looking good here so far, notwithstanding the PointState sell-off. No doubt they have their reasons, and they'll have made a tidy profit. K

Brilliant interims yesterday from BDEV. Half-year dividend increased by 50% and a commitment to gradually reduce the dividend cover from 2.5X to 1.75X by FY 2024 which appears expedient. No share buy-backs as the Board here is minded to offer. So, after 14 years of holding just TW amongst the larger builders, I've decided to gradually sell down half my TW shares and reinvest the proceeds in BDEV, starting with 2,000 shares sold yesterday @ 154p. My TW shares are all held in an ISA and are free running, I sold enough at 80p in 2013 to cover my original investment.
I don't know whether BDEV's approach to shareholder returns will be better than that of TW for the longer term or not, but I'm planning to give it 5 years (all things being equal, health permitting...) to see if there is ultimately any difference in the total return. K

That's right Spurs. Problem is, it took 25 years to get control of inflation last time it took off. What makes you think it will be any different this time, when our government (and most others, worldwide) needs inflation to reduce the national debt in real terms?

Agreed richred, a dividend that isn't covered is a recipe for disaster longer term. However, the company has argued that it is justified in making the current level of payments pending the newly-acquired assets coming on stream to make up the shortfall. As the number of (apparently) highly-performing assets increases over time, so does the likelihood of that threshold being reached and the dividend increasing. I'm thinking in terms of 1-2 years minimum though, these things take time and some of the new schemes I suspect are little more than greenfield/brownfield sites at this stage. Awaiting further updates with anticipation.
