I've not been able to post much since my wife's illness but I'm compelled to reply to your post Warty. You've been an ever-present in the small group of long-term holders, I for one would be very sad indeed if you were no longer with us. It might seem like we're on a very large snake currently but any bit of good news will very quickly see us back up the ladder (IMHO) and who knows where the ultimate destination could take us? Hope you reconsider rather than regret a hasty decision. Either way, genuinely wish you all the very best going forward. K

Thanks for the feedback guys, it's always good to get a perspective from customers and other investors. Sounds like I need to take another look & do a bit more research before jumping to conclusions. GLA

moorlaner, yes this reminds me of the Christmas hamper model too. Ask customers of Park Cakes, who lost all their money when it went belly up.

You can't open a letter these days without a flyer from Naked Wines dropping out. It's the usual "discount" off the first delivery followed by monthly payments for who knows what? I want to know what I'm paying for, so I avoid duff vintages of wines I won't enjoy. There's just not enough transparency for me, personally, in their model. As I say, others may see it differently. Why would you buy from Naked as opposed to, say, The Wine Society? Or Majestic even, accepting their joint history?

Shares Magazine carrying a "Great Ideas" feature on DX. this morning, has this as a Buy at 30p. Can't post a link as it's behind a paywall but it concludes by saying "we think further evidence of its improved prospects will drive a re-rating from a 2022 price to earnings ratio, based on Liberum’s forecasts, of 10.8 times."

Lousy business model, gimmicky approach to customers and now nowhere left to hide. Even American wine buyers can't be taken in indefinitely. All IMHO of course, others may see it differently.

RogueRiver, I can see how it would help if a foreign PE buyer took a position here but a takeover? No, thank you. I trust the existing management. I guess I'm biased having originally bought in here 13 years ago at 16 1/4 but I firmly believe there will be opportunities to benefit substantially going forward too.

Unfortunately the Index has plunged since October, hence the pullback here. Hoping the recent uptick is a sign of improvements to come, otherwise the exceptional rates seen here recently will be short-lived.

Well I got everything I asked for, still slightly surprised the market is holding up as well as it is. Let's see how it plays out. No reason to fear for the resumption of the special divi next year, looks nailed on now for me.

Trading update tomorrow, bit of FOMO set in today but the SP normally drops after news here however positive it turns out. Hoping for a steady-as-she-goes statement with no worrying signs of significant delays and/or cost pressures, and viewings /order book holding up.

No they didn't tell me why I'd failed adv11 although I suspect I was just too honest with my answers (no, I haven't been on a course to advise me about making complex investments) so I wasn't altogether surprised. Anyway, I'll either have to live without an investment in HONY or I'll use Mrs. K's ISA account and give them the answers they want, see where that gets me.
Just going back to GSF, half-year results and dividend declaration due next month, be interesting to get a NAV update & find out if some of the newer assets are coming onstream soon.

No, nothing. Suspect it's a local rag trying to hype up a non-story about possible takeover/closure of their local store. With the war-chest available to SUPR it's no surprise they're chasing more assets. If we've learned anything during this pandemic it's that our country is reliant on omnichannel supermarkets. Whatever else we've been willing to give up, we won't do without these guys.

Thanks for the feedback adv11. These brokers really do think we're all idiots don't they? Mind you, after failing my test on HL they might be right in my case! I mean, no-one is better placed than our brokers to decide whether a punter is sophisticated enough and sufficiently diversified to bear the risk associated with these so-called "riskier" investments. Anyway, fortunately there are plenty of other opportunities out there for us to invest in with decent, fairly reliable dividends.

I know this is GSF board yada yada but I've enjoyed the discussions about Harmony etc. I tried to invest in HONY recently (I think you might be in there adv11?) but failed the test & HL wouldn't let me buy. Apparently it's too sophisticated for me (by which I assume they mean the big boys want to keep the 8%+ divi to themselves?). It's hard enough making a decent return in these days of low/no interest without being blocked from pretty straightforward-looking investments.

Del77, I suspect it's for the same reason Potnak took a "cheeky" £5k in the run-up to Christmas last year. Last October TM & JR each took c. £35k and no doubt had a great Christmas, this year it's c. £150k and who would deny them a fabulous celebration this time around after what they've achieved for themselves and many, many long-term holders. I, for one, don't begrudge them a penny of it. I expect they'll do something similar next year, and in subsequent years. After all, they hold c. 50m shares each, that's not a bad core holding is it?
