HC - the trouble with goodwill imo is that it's literally a figure plucked out of thin air - it was too high - was written down at the last results - but is still way too high and needs to be written down again. Also remember one liability is the rental leases - this figure will change year on year as the lease periods decline. A CVA will reduce this liability sharply and a D4E as well together will vastly improve the balance sheet (I tend to look for the positives whilst acknowledging the negatives - lets always try to look at both sides of the debate). So a stronger balance sheet is possible - but the downside will probably be several billion additional shares In issue.
(Smartie2 - I will not repeat myself except to say you knew all this whilst a shareholder but never mentioned it - strange that)

Breakup value? The Denmark business? Not sure if Bedford House in Taunton is saleable? I think we have gone beyond this point. The question now is really whether revised funding can be secured, whether s CVA will be proposed and whether MA will wait and sit this out or make an urgent bid pre news...

I cannot think of a worse flip flopping poster during my eight years on LSE. Debenhams will not be looking at a CVA if they didn't think it would success. A D4E is to secure the company's future. Shareholders will be mad not to vote for it. Do you not want Debenhams to survive?

Explain.. how are the BoD running the company into the ground? They left it all a little late in the day but now are working on 1) cost cutting 2) store closure programme subject to agreement and/or CVA 3) refinancing subject to terms and possible D4E 4) have the Denmark store that can be sold 5) have a new tie-up.
MA isn't going to look after the welfare of the (other) shareholders - perhaps the BoD will do their best to keep a listing intact.. why will MA do a better job - HoF apparently is not going that great atm either

Agree - I can't think of any company CVAs that have failed? (if so, not often - the majority get though).. it depends on the terms I guess.
Re MA - as others have said - he might be forced to bid before the company secures funding or face dilution - even if it's a low ball bid .. say 5p .. he can then hover up shares in the market and try to get to 50% (if the shares were to stay under his offer price)
Re D4E - it appears likely - again no point issuing billions of shares at just 1p (!!) so hopefully it will be near the current share price .. as I repeated earier - more shares are bad but less debt good so kinda contra one another out
Smartie2 - it's only personal because you have flooded this thread today with your "doubts". Sorry but I repeat - you were 100% bullish just a week ago - no one in their right mind should be such a flip flop on literally no new real news - it's transparent and you know it

Just remember Smartie2 - that NOTHING posted on a BB should make any investor buy or sell a share - it should be just part of your research - only a fool would trade on the words of a BB comment. So whether you post once a day or fifty times per day will not make a blind bit of difference as to how a share performs - it performs based on RNS news and actual buy/sell pressure. So you are simply wasting your time - at least if you hold you have a reason to post... (yes I do post occasionally on ex holdings but not as actively as Smartie2 - is he a boiler room employee?)

Let's try to put it another way .. we knew the risks FOR MONTHS.. the risk of a CVA.. the risk of a D4E .. the "risk" of MA making a bid... during this time Smartie2 held the shares and was 100% BULLISH..

It's too vague tbh because what an asset is worth and what CLP will receive on settlement are two separate things - see the recent RNS on settlement of a claim - CLP got back less than the original court claim - probably to stop the case dragging on for another year imo.
IMO the NAV should be north of 1p .. if we get back a little less than half of what is due .. if we got back everything then well north of 2p.. excluding bond conversions at share price premiums etc. Others may give you a clearer picture but we are talking about various events/news flow over the next few years.. excluding any new projects or developments. All I will say is that the shares are undervalued - at a current discount to NAV alone!

NoHearts - yes I am aware that SPD and connections hold around 37% of the share issue - so would only need 21% of the other shareholders to vote with them.. quite possible... not a guarantee as I repeat - it depends on what MA puts as the question in any EGM vote. The company can push the date of the EGM out to the end of April - and by then a lot of water will have passed under the bridge. Refinancing - by whatever method. CVA. Maybe even a third party bid? Of course with 37% of the share issue - he might try to block attempts to put the company in a better financial state - which would be only for his selfish reasons re buying the company on the cheap ex debt.

Interesting - thanks. Broker ratings are important but only one aspect of research. It looks like a few nervous sellers are moving out and not enough buyers are here .. yet. If I had a floor target - it might be around 80p.. just my opinion and I hope to be proved wrong. It seems that some wonder if another contract may be cancelled? It's a risk but the share price could enter oversold terriority soon gla

Fair play to him - he wants to win-win - but it's so transparent - hence why if he wants 50% of the company and to take control - he will have to make a bid - probably at a small premium - I doubt 50% of shareholders will vote for him to replace the BoD at an EGM - especially if funding has just been secured - again though it depends on the refinancing terms. More shares equals bad. Less debt equals company survival equals good. Maybe it's best to watch from the sidelines ... rather than risk a loss .. but also to risk not making a decent s/t profit???

NoHearts - post reported. To call posters who are shareholders "loons" is an outrageous slur - I disagree with some of the comments from you and other derampers/shorters - but you are entitled to your opinion and may prove to be right.
Nowhere in the RNS does it state "debt for equity" - so it's not a fact (yet) .. it's an opinion - although I agree it's very likely and the price may be at a discount to current share price - we will just have to wait and see - ditto re debt facilities and reasons re HappyChappy comments - who is at least civil.
Smartie2 - some of us might have sold a few and banked a profit after the 20% rise this morning - makes sense... some of us might have got our initial money back and now have a holding that is pure potential profit - who knows...?

Headroom isn't the same actual debt. Tbh it's not clear if the total is now £600 million plus or renewing existing facilities because remember it appears they were stopped from using current total facility limits hence recent £40 million tap

HC debt was £321 million at year end. I take this as renewing/agreeing the additional headroom above current debt . There is not £600 potential debt imo. Maybe bonds will be repaid or leases settled?

Why on earth are you continuing to post? You have no intention of investing again - and you have a nerve attacking others for "ramping" posts - perhaps look back at YOUR posts while you were holding - you were KING of the rampers. You decided to sell out - fine. Do YOURSELF a favour - move on - let go - and invest and post elsewhere. I know from experience (and i still do it sometimes) that continuing to monitor an ex investment or to post on it will drive you insane. Either have a small investment here and skin in the game (no advice intended) and post or stop attacking others who have decided to stay here. The RNS today is GREAT NEWS - new funding facilities are within the company's grasp - maybe via new shares - maybe not. If secured - the company will be fine for the foreseeable future bar any further deterioration. MA will not be happy :-)
