Jezz you post for posting sake with the constant droning.. get a hobby and let the adults debate the merits or otherwise of investing here. Smartie2 - you asked why would anyone bid for Debenhams? Have you bought noticed the retail takeovers recently ? HoF, Evans Cycles, Findel, HMV, PV plus Sainsbury's/ Asda merger. Ok some went into admin first but a bid for Debenhams is likely - what isn't clear is whether shareholders will be involved

Post retail? LOL of course.. we are ALL going to live indoors - on our chairs - on our computers - 24/7 - never going ouside - or visiting shops to buy food-clothes-homewear or any other items.
I think most might agree the direction of travel is to online but I can't see the high street completely disappearing in my life time..

BTW before I am picked up on my comment - I have turned bearish on a few of my old investments - but it never happens overnight - it usually takes months of poor performance or bad news for me to change opinion - I just hate people posting "just to be right".. you might be wrong...

Smartie2 - there is nothing worse than a former shareholder (from a few weeks ago) doing a 180 degree flip and becoming bearish and negative and only pointing out the bad points - frankly it stinks. OK opinions can change but I presume you invested before because you saw more positives than negatives. Perhaps you can remind us the positives that made you invest in the first place? Nothing material has changed today - CVA and D4E were likely while you were a shareholder. The extra interest costs though have push down expectations - ok that makes sense. Although surely the banks s/b careful not to end up with a bust company and £200 million of unpaid debt!!!

Yep the balance sheet isn't great - remember though that goodwill is an intangible - it doesn't really effect cash flow and why literally all big companies have it on their books is beyond me - it was too high to start with. Another reason for a D4E I guess - clean up the BS - which to be fair they started during at the last results

Hi RKB - it wasn't personal - I tried to delete 50 email messages a few months ago and somehow every single historic message in my in-box got deleted - I wasn't happy - as I had more than a few contacts that I lost including yourself. Why should it sink without trace? Why? The share price has been at an all time low .. 3p !!! Value less than £50 million for a company with £1.7 billion revenue and (atm) not making any known substantial profit OR loss - probably breakeven. My point is that what did you expect today? 0p? 90% of the bad news is already factored into the share price imho - we know 50 stores will close - we know debts must reduce (D4E) - we know there is the Denmark store that can be sold - we know there is possible bid interest from MA - so 3p really should be near the floor except for suspension of course imho

So it wasn't at £2 - so why say it? As I said the share price at £2 must go way back and the helpful graph from another poster makes it clear shorts were non existent back in 2013-14 and only gradually increased from 2016.
So shorted at 95p - personally thinik you are mad not to have banked profits over the last year - must have more money than sense or don't need it imho

Hope to sign up soon - agree if you don't do (any) research then you only have yourself to blame if your investment goes wrong - it's also worthwhile to validate any information on a BB - if you have the time. A number of 500k trades going though now ... something appears up...

shorting from £2 ?? How LONG ago was the share price £2 .? TBH I doubt there was a substantial short position at +£1 .. probably from 50-60p downwards when slowly but surely it was clear the trading environment was getting worse (I may be wrong but £2 seems a long long time ago now)

DShox - this poster has only posted 160 times on LSE so not sure you can say he/she has a track record (yet). My gut feeling is that he/she had a previous ID - just a guess from previous experience - why bother posting so much on the one share otherwise? If you hold a share - you tend to be supportive - of course it's great if it is not 100% ramping and you can acknowledge the odd bad RNS/development - but not with every other post... GLA news soon IMO!

Busy today... ?? Any way one of your posts is not factually correct - you cannot state administration WILL happen - it's your opinion .. ok? I am happy to say the risks of this event happening have increased but a CVA and D4E will prevent administration - the key question is whether MA will support the BoD efforts to avoid this or whether he will not support any fund raising because he wants admin to pick up the pieces?
BTW SPD/MA cannot buy shares in the market today - they hold 29.9% of the company - going over this limit will mean a mandatory bid (see Findel yesterday) - he cannot do this ..yet (as Pearls will remind us all later as he/she is counting down the days)

LOL well I have had a few 100-1 winners on the horses over the years - probably happens 2-3 times per month - speaking from experience. As for the CEO - he got voted off by two main shareholders - SPD/MA and one other - but all shareholders voted him off the board. Games are being played behind the scenes and there is no guarantee that a new group of directors will make any significant difference to the situation. Remember the rental cost issue is a HISTORIC issue thanks to the private companies agreeing to 25 year long leases - the current directors are trying to deal with this issue NOW. Of course perhaps in hindsight they waited too long to bite the bullet but did ANYONE see the decline in high street trading happening back 2-3 years ago or Brexit or the move to online? Debenhams is just one of several retailers having a very bad time - remember this!

Read it again. A mixture of good and bad news. LFL decline levelling off but since focus is on sorting out balance sheet the BoDs are obviously not focused so much in cost control (it seems). Maybe small profit/loss now??

We? Are you a Debenhams landlord? Maybe it's quiet because the £40 million facility ensures payment of the March quarter rent and/or the banks need more time to agree new financial terms? Could be good news - could be bad. As for CVAs - better get used to it otherwise there might be no high street left and rents to collect!!!

When did he amass a £1 billion war chest? If so, £200 million may be spent on Findel..

Pearls - I hold shares here - as you know - but sorry to say there is "no chance" of an administration style event is your opinion - but I think it's wrong. There is always a risk for any retailer that revenue can fall - overheads can increase - and administration can happen - we see it happen to retailers several times per year. Debenhams isn't too big to fail - I agree CVA and/or D4E are the most likely outcomes but I put the risk of administration over the next year at 10-20% - I obviously hope I am wrong.
