Seer - this isn't really the thread to discuss Brexit (see general chat for discussion) but I have to answer your points. 1) if it was a reckless thing to (shock horror) have a referendum on whether the UK should leave the EU .. was it also a reckless thing to have a referendum back in 1975 to maintain membership of the Common Market? Reckless to let Scotland have a referendum? Reckless to have a referendum on our voting system? Perhaps the answer is that this country is not used to having referendums unlike other countries.
Also Cameron really had no choice imho - his party was split on Europe/EU and UKIP were polling 20% .. ignoring the issue wasn't going to help. I blame the EU - he went to them asking for concessions (FoM etc) and got back zlitch. If he had got concessions I am sure we would have voted to remain.
BTW the national debt doubled because of the 2008 crash - we were suddenly borrowing £160 billion per year in 2009. What the tories did wrong was to cut the annual debt via 20% tax increases and 80% spending cuts. It should have been 50/50. We should blame our banking system, debt stress testing on the banks etc. Cameron was just trying to deal with the 2008 aftermath. He didn't do a great job...
As for Debenhams - a WTO exit will hurt all companies - at least for the short term - and companies already on their knees - like Debenhams - will have no chance.

Why? There are larger retailers than Debenhams. Yes. Debenhams is the most likely candidate for a CVA but if Next Arcadia, John Lewis, M&S or SPD were to ever undertake a CVA, I would argue they would have a bigger impact than a 150 store chain closing 30-50 stores (although obviously a big negative for the property sector). I guess Debenhams will effect your connections significantly then....

Nothing new though is it? The share price has been valued below the NAV for years. I suspect we will get several RNS news updates in a short period - hopefully!

Although the information links are "interesting" I really don't know what good it does FOR SHAREHOLDERS. We know the situation - we decided to invest - we don't need to be reminded almost on a daily basis of the situation re the rents WE KNOW!!!!!!!! I just feel sorry now for SV - the guy cannot move on... is fixated with Debenhams - perhaps because of his connection to the property sector - fair enough. However Brexit etc. effects ALL retailers - Debenhams is quite minor in the scheme of things - re the rental sector. Pearls, you are almost as obsessed with MA bidding as I am with Brexit lol (35 days to go) Just don't pin everything on it happening (MA bidding and Brexit). Doubt it helps the company either trying to talk to the banks yet wondering if there will be a bid at the same time!

I don't shop at New Look, Primark, Mothercare etc. So I don't post on the threads... Usually posters post because they know the company and wish to debate about it. Even if not holding. What's the point of posting on a company were you have never even been in a store? Perhaps at 60 you get lonely and want company.. sadly I don't have long to find out if this is the case..

So if he didn't have any intention of bidding last October, what has changed? He might consider it later this year but I wouldn't bet on it - for a start, he is still working though sorting out his recent 3-4 acquisitions.

Not sure this news is worth taking £1 billion off the market value - there are concerns that both companies need to address in order to get the merger approved - it makes it less likely but not impossible.
As for shopping at Sainsburys - use the small local store most days for lunch in town - maybe Boots/Tesco occasionally. As for larger shops - I tend to shop around. A tread will be Waitrose - standard shop will be Tesco-Morrisons or Sainsburys - near the end of the month I tend to use Iceland-Aldi-Lidi (I don't think the range is large enough - yet - to warrant it being my main weekly shopping destination).. the point - being loyal to one brand has disappeared - people need to budget - will shop at x brand according to their cash flow/time of month - I doubt many people only shop at one store now.. will monitor as I suspect further weakness for a short period gla

Yep the rents are due - never a easy time for any retailer - not sure why the March end rental payment should be any different to the June-Sept-Dec rental payment as far as cash flow is concerned - unless trading has gone down hill faster than anticipated!

That's because the market is factoring in probable refinancing and is not convinced MA will actually make a bid. He has time on his side - so no cert he will make any offer next month.

Hence why I would like a new option next to "opinion".. "Interest" being 1) shareholder 2) ex shareholder 3) shorting 4) sector interest and 5) just trolling :-) So obviously (sorry) when some posters buy or sell ... their opinions change overnight!

Actually M&S used to open at 830am in Broadness Bristol .. now it's 9am which has annoyed some of us in the office wanting to get a pre work shop done. So perhaps a sector issue...

Yes, interesting to see the share price reaction over at FOOT - proves at least some retailers in the sector have under valued.. btw JD Sports should not be confused with Sports Direct (MA).. MA has not made a bid for FOOT or taken a stake - JD Sports have... (doesn't mean he might now consider taking part in a bid war for FOOT)...
