The justification is clear - it has never been mentioned as a possibility by the BoD (unless I missed it in the last RNS). The company made £33million last time and forecasts were anywhere from £18million profit to £9 million loss this time.
Also the debt is not £500 million so stop the short angle misinfomation. It was around £300 million at the year end - the facilities are £500 million - a big difference. With Interserve the shorting hedge funds voted against the deal. Most small shareholders probably voted for it - and the vote was quite close. Oh, and you forgot to mention the £150 million loan on offer from MA which may avoid a massive D4E - at least for now .
I don't expect holders to continue to highlight the positives/best case just as shorters will focus on the worse case

Btw thanks tu-chuzey - you have been quite balanced recently which is appreciated. Even I concede the negatives are now outweighing the positives and my fear that MA will just sit on his hands and wait for administration now look likely although to be fair to him he has offered a loan. BoD take it.

Well first of all the Sunday Telegraph have a history of anti Debenhams articles - some not that accurate. However it's clear that retailers usually go bust from not paying their quarterly rental bills... I just don't get it.. I thought they were well within the agreed financial headroom borrowing facilities unless trading is now so dire these facilities are invalid.
My advice to the BoD - take the offer from MA.

You also need to remember that this thread is quite mild compared to many others on LSE. There are threads were excessive ramping is the norm and any counter argument is attacked - were posters refuse to acknowledge the risks/other view points - sometimes even after suspension! Let's just hope there is some news in the near future so that the outlook becomes clearer GLA

There's a time to let go. This share has been gone years. I don't bother going on the HIBU or QPP threads anymore because I know my investment isn't coming back. It's just my opinion that LSE should close threads were companies have delisted after (say) three years .. there's always general chat or email if old posters want to keep in time but for me as an ex investor here seeing posts is just a very painful reminder of a poor investment choice. RV pensions? Err..most companies have historic pension schemes and debt. Tell us something new. Btw were are you invested? Obviously not retail...

Knock off maybe £100 million if they sold the Denmark business and perhaps a few million on residual property/assets then the final debt figure might be nearer £150-£170 million - who knows? Probably be news in the Sunday papers again .. as for whether one should buy-hold-sell .. it depends on whether you need the money or can see a better opportunity elsewhere... this share is high risk and a 1p movement either way is equal to 30% so weight up the pros and cons..

TBH who cares1 (re how much one has invested or may make on x price) Most of us here are shareholders and £1,000 may be a lot for one person just as £50,000 may be nothing to another - health is far more important than you bank balance - just invest here (and anywhere else) what you can afford to lose - best advice I can give

Yes it is quiet out there and some stores will be doing worse than others - but perhaps walk around SouthSea and let us know how other stores are performing... is it quiet everywhere or just Debenhams? Maybe they were all queuing in click and collect .. I do..

BTW you have really P me off now.. show me posts were I said I wanted WRN posters to lose money? I was quite bullish to start with but over the months the personal abuse I received - for looking at both sides of the argument - made be quite negative - I repeat - the share was already suspended.. it still is.
There's also a big difference here - LSE and Smartie2 switch their opinions to suit their trading position - to be fair to Smartie2 - he did say when he sold out and is entitled to change his mind - but from non stop ramping to non stop deramping takes the biscuit and I will call it out on here - on WRN - on any share - I wish Whetstone shareholders the best but less of the OTT ramping might actually attach a few new investors/posters over there...

FYI there's a big difference between a share listed and a suspended (for five years!) shares - whatever you post cannot effect a suspended share can it!! Yes, perhaps at times I was insensitive on that thread - fair comment - but posters are allowed to be bullish with some shares and bearish on other shares you know... I don't post on WRN LSE now if you haven't noticed - promised to stop at 31/12/18 and have kept my word - excessive ramping (which WRN thread posters was guilty of provided false hope for years - Whetstone might be different). Smartie2 - I expect you to be posting again later today - I know from personal experience that keeping off a thread can be literally impossible. Instead of worrying about us - ask yourself the questions. Why did you invest? Why have you changed your mind? What lessons will YOU learn?

SPD-MA have not been able to bid for the last six months is you had bothered to notice - why he did not bid beforehand is his business - perhaps he had HoF on his mind.. Franalex - I don't care if you have been to the moon - it's not about the biggest ego here - why non holders continue to infest this thread is beyond me - you have no intention of buying or even probably shorting - so be a good guy and move along.. read what I said... the Debenhams market value reflects the risks - but revenue is still £1.5 billion and it was only 2-3 years ago profits were £100 million plus - we are at the low point of a cycle and as someone in retail I can tell you we have been here before - at least twice in the last 20 years. Why should a company with £1.5 billion revenue to valued at £50 million when a company with zero revenue be valued the same - go figure (as for ego - I made my money buying Helphire at 1p when I transferred into a SIPP - not talking a few thousand either but near a million - so lets stop the W waving ok)

OMG! Perhaps you should mention this fact on the hundreds of AIM-small cap- and medium cap shares were the balance sheets are week - there is little revenue - and the companies are loss making due to looking for oil.. gold..gas... or are in medicine or software or IT etc. ... yet these companies can be valued at hundreds of millions of pounds ... Debenhams is valued at sub £50 million - not factoring in any recovery - and growth online - sorry but perhaps your logic will be better placed elsewhere !!!

Happychappy - the guy sold out too soon - could have made another 20% - and now is trying to post the negative view point to buy in lower - it won't work because most sensible investors do not trade on BB comment - he is simply wasting his time and energy.
You are quite correct - a CVA will result in a leaner portfolio with the profitable stores (or the ones that can recover) left and the company wish £50-£100 million less rent to pay (just an estimate - depends on rent reductions on the remaining portfolio). The bigger risk to shareholders - which I am quite open to acknowledge as I have never said there is not a real risk of losing the lost here - is a massive D4E sub 1p with current shareholders ending up with less than 10% of revised share issue - however this is the worse case imho and MA knows this and is working hard to avoid this happening hence his new offer. TBH I really see a mixture of positives and negatives here and wish others did the same and not flip flop just to suit their trading position :-) (not you of course)
