We can all see covid seems to be receding from the front page (long may it continue) and with the optimistic assumption that the Ukrainian situation resolves itself without a **** being fired.
What are the risks out there for cineworld? The appeal won’t be resolved for a year or so (according to many posters) so shouldn’t weigh on the Sp too much this year (I’m assuming) us / world inflation news has been grim, interest rate rises have been forecast or announced.
The question I have for you all just for fun, what are the impediments to a sp recovery? Is it just a matter of time or are there causes (other than those mentioned) for our tardy sp.
GLA LTH’s
Looks fairly predictable and standard to my untrained eye. Nothing to get excited or worried over.
GLA LTH’s
Wellington, I couldn’t agree more.
To the sain and committed LTH’ I salute you, there has been a steady drip drip drip of dull posters lately.
I can’t wait for the “Ukrainian” to be resolved as I can’t really see any further impediment to our cultures, economies and lives beginning to recover from this period of turmoil.
Anyone see anything else once the Ukrainian issue is “done”, obviously I’m assuming that covid continues to fade from the front page.
What will the press write about???
GLA LTH’s
Cheers for the replies.
Could be worse, could be in amigo.
Today reminds me of the day after the court case announcement, but this time literally nothing Cineworld related has happened…..mental.
Crazy world we live in.
GLA
Shocked to see todays action, can’t see anything cineworld specific, have I missed something?
If it’s not one thing it’s another, a once in a 100year pandemic followed it seems by a dictator causing chaos…..whatever it is we get smashed.
A VERY frustrated LTH.
GLA
Olpps, long time no hear. Apologies if I missed any posts.
The pandemic is coming to a close as a result of the sheer luck of the omicron variant being less severe but more transmissible, thank god.
The main stream media has seldom lead with the truth or had the publics best interest at heart. As for Dr Campbell, I think he’s way more qualified than I am and choose to listen to him, I think there’s no smoke without fire. The one point that’s irrefutable is that the average age of death from covid is 82.5. Supports the original early messaging about this being a higher risk the older you are….yet we are being told to vaccinate children. Dr Peter Mculough has advised against this due to a large increase in cases of myocarditis in young (mainly) males, children and adolescent. I make the points not to try and win this conversation merely point out that in the absence of honest public scientists, medics and a integrity filled media the public have no choice other than to look at alternative sources of information.
Giant squid - welcome back, true to form you bring old bad news with you. ******

Cheers Bonkers and bhozan
Let’s hope creepy Biden is imposing enough to dissuade Putin……
GLA
Been busy today and have just seen the action, can’t find any cineworld specific news out there. Any ideas as what’s gone on? Surely not Russia?
GLA
As for profits (I forgot earlier) as stated we have a 0.5b loss for H1, I’d love to see that reduced slightly for the full year, anywhere 0.4-0.45 would be really positive imo.
Personally Bonkers I’d like to see an overall, in every metric a 75% return to 2019 numbers. A bullish appeal line and a definitive comment / timeline on US listing. If we get those things we will see a strong positive reaction IMO. The thing is those things are more probable than possible, so like you I look forward to these results.
GLA
To be honest, I like most of you don’t have any faith in the integrity of the Canadian courts after their ruling on the original case.
Worse case we lose, the judgment “stands”, I have a feeling having seen the wording or the appeal that Cineworld will not comply and force cineplex to bring a case to the UK courts (if that’s an option)…..even then we could possibly pay £x per year over x years, which would appear reasonable given that all lost synergies would not be realised instantly (credit mountainous for that theory)
GLA
Bonkers I couldn’t agree more, I saw a few barbed resentful comments a short while back from him and thought exactly the same. I like many others have endured months of trolling, bad SP action and general apathy from the board (in terms of communication) to come back when we have had a few good days and throw dung at us is weak and maybe says that someone sold at the bottom and got caught out.
Appeal looks good….but I thought that about the original case.
GLA……still holding.
Yeah I get that and have seen the conversations, I suppose my point is it would be nice for the board to lay it out to us instead of having to put 2 & 2 together.
As for a potential US listing, I’m sick of being the last to know. Are we actively pursuing this? What are we doing to further this? When is this likely to happen etc etc.
I’m becoming increasingly frustrated with the sparse, non communal and or cryptic “communication” from the board to shareholders.
Predictably poor piece, regurgitated bullet points and nothing of value to say. Streaming = piracy = substantial loss, pandemic worries / lockdown = realllllly - it’s all over bar the shouting. The uk is muted to be withdrawing all restrictions bar masks by the end of the month, the US was / is approx 2 weeks behind us so will be peaking very soon. I’ve been saying the pandemic will be over by the end of January and so far we are on track for that….touch wood.
In the whole all the bad news has been had, all the known unknown are now known and the SP has been priced accordingly. It’s clear to me that in all likelihood that in the near future the pandemic will be declared “over” and everyone will get on with trying to rebuild their lives.
Cineworld will continue to exhibit films and sell concessions and with a bit of luck continue to be profitable, I’d like to think these fundamentals will be recognised within the SP at some point soon. But who knows.
I’m still holding out for an announcement that an out of court settlement has been reached with cineplex, not holding my breath though.
Finally if the s*** does hit the fan we had better be prepared for the board to make sure their interests are protected even if at our expense, Wellington i principally agree with that eventuality being possible but I hope not probable.
GLA I hope as time passes we need not rely on luck so much.
Wellington-crossing fingers is about as good as it gets for us, sadly.
I must say the judgment to my eye seems mental, awarding plex the benefits we would have expected to enjoy seems perverse…..but what do I know I invested here.
Good morning Wellington - I agree with everything you have posted, save for the last part. I would imagine any IP would weigh the benefit of going back to court vs a negotiated settlement. Don’t forget at that point they represent the debt holders and are duty bound to maximise recovery of cash with minimal risk / out lay. Just a thought mate.
Wow, herald the new CCP’ (Canadian communist party) social credit scheme in action. Disgusting.
You never know, there could have been a settlement agreed behind the scenes.
Poor volume today.
GLA
Ok fair enough, I’d read the earlier reports and missed the updates.
Correction appreciated.
