Much of the stock is from the EU of course - it makes sense to import it from as close as possible and without tariffs. Imports from the EU will be affected more than elsewhere but elsewhere will be affected if we leave with no deal. I don't think anyone is expecting the pound to do anything but collapse if there is no deal (or delay) come March 29. Import prices up, GDP down, demand down. The only hope is that BME show themselves to be a truly counter-cyclical organisation and look to meet the growing number of people with falling real incomes should be leave with no deal

You are right there Crow. But you have to remember how much cult faith some people have in 'market forces'. "It's the market this" and it’s the market that" b/s that people spout off is common language now from all quarters. It is as if there is a received wisdom in the overwhelming brilliance of market forces that people can't shake off - it is like a form of brain-washing that has gone on over the years . Even the ultra-left (before they realised Corbyn was a Brexiteer and when they were still calling Brexiteers rascists) used free trade rhetoric to back up their arguments for staying in the EU.

The argument seems to be that with free trade (which incidentally we have with the EU at the moment) there will be no losers and everyone gains. Well, just look at the EU. Free trade and free movement of capital is the reason for the gross disparities of national income. Ask people in Greece if they like the EU, ask people in Southern Italy, ask people in Portugal, ask people in Spain. Whilst their incomes have stagnated or fallen, the bigger industrial countries in Northern Europe have prospered. Check out the balance of payments positions in the last 25 years to see who won.

If we tried to make deals with the US or China it would be like Greece trying to negotiate with Germany. There will only be one winner and it will not be the UK. Has anyone already noticed that the Yanks are saying we would not be able to trade freely with China if we want to trade with them?

It is not a zero-sum game as someone mentioned, but also it does not mean everyone wins. Check out countries in South America and Africa that went for free trade. When they joined the WTO and were forced to have more open borders (WTO / Washington Consensus) many of their GDPs fell. Yep, it fell.

Free trade is not a panacea, whatever the brain-washed boneheads say. Cost reductions from trade agreements are one thing, but international exploitation is another thing entirely.

Ask them if they could name the countries in the EU - almost certainly they couldn't. Their 'love' for the EU is that they think there might be a short-term down turn in their incomes.

Oh my, one month before the 29th March and Jeremy "vote against Lisbon Treaty" Corbyn has had a change of heart. I suppose losing his mate Williamson to charges of anti-semitism and seeing his party fracture over that issue and on the EU leaves him with little choice but to look for new friends.

Quite sad really - he is looking tired. You never know, he might even have spotted Watson and Starmer shaping up for the leadership fight for when he has been put out to grass.

Labour's b/s is laughable - it wants a referendum (Labour isn't in power) and for the wording to be (Labour isn't in power) either a remain (Labour isn't in power) or its own non finalised, or agreed with the EU, version of a withdrawal agreement (Labour isn't in power).

To be fair though, May is playing a brinkmanship game with the boneheads that I didn't think she had in her. If they don't go for her deal then they are practically giving up on all the gains they think they had won since 24th June 2016 - it will be years and years until they can ever hope to get to this position again. As a minimum, it will be Jacob's grand child, Opulentum Bonyheadicus, before there is any chance of a repeat of getting to this stage. No PM in their right mind would ever, I mean ever, do what Cameron did. May 2, Boneheads 0.

Couldn't agree more Calisto. That is what happened. Also what happened more recently is that Greece were allowed/cajoled to join the Euro to its significant economic detriment. When things inevtibaly went pop and external and internal deficits grew then who was there to help? Oh yes, a tecnocratic pseudo government appointed by the EU and crippling loan agreements that has all but written of generations. Also, I can't wait to find out in time what on earth made Tsipras change his tune and become so EU compliant.

Don't confuse me for an EU apologist - I am far from a fan of technocratic government and loss of UK political and economic sovereignty. It is not the fact we voted to leave I am concerned about (how can I be if I voted leave myself?), but the reckless, and I call them boneheaded, people who treat the EU with contempt at every juncture and who want to just wake up with no withdrawal deal and hope things turn out for the best on 30th March.

Fair point about the bonehead language. It wasn't aimed at those who voted one way or the other but the zealots who used divisive and questionable rhetoric to try and justify their affliction to the EU and EU citizens. I agree that people can only vote on the knowledge they have at the time and that will always be the case in any vote. The vote was 52% or thereabouts to 48% or thereabouts and that is it. Fully accepted.

It is the near-frenzied, frothing mouth anathema to all things European (including the EU) from those who ought to know better that I object to. They are my boneheads and not the people who made a proper value-judgment.

The point was not about obligations to provide updates, it was about previous comments concerning time-scales and nothing thereafter.

The end of year update included the following about that so-called German deal: "Having announced an intention to reach financial close by 31st December, this has been revised and is now targeted to reach financial close in the New Year."

If by the "New Year" they mean end Q1 or maybe into Q2 or even beyond into Q3 or Q4 then say so. As it stands, and as we get further away from the "New Year", then doubts that the deal will be concluded at all begin to mount. The continued drop in sp to near all-time lows is concerning. No comment and the concern grows.

It was thinking about children and children's children that was the point TFE. The vote was not short term thinking I agree, it was much more than that. Those who make the economic argument the only argument are the ones who are the real short termers who have benefited from EU membership and have material gains to prove it. They are worried on a level of personal finance only and would happily trade monetary and fiscal sovereignty for the vain hope that their personal wealth will rise further. The news is that not everyone gained, those who lost out voted on the whole to leave and, here is the rub, they voted in sufficient numbers to get a majority. End of.

Quite how we were to leave was rarely discussed in 2016 (though Farage did say he looked at Norway as a good example !!!). Labour went and hid because it was too hard and the Hard Brexit boneheads appealed to the base instincts of the oh so gullible. The only way to avoid the boneheads getting their way is to have an orderly political Brexit with a bespoke, to be neogiated, trade deal. Another referendum leave result would give it all to the boneheads - avoid at all costs.

I tried to explain the supporters of Corbyn who were remainers that 'Corbyn and remain' were in no way synonymous. The big laugh about the rise of student union minded Labour Trotsky Party is that the Corbynistas didn't know much about Corbyn. He voted against Lisbon, is a chip off the block of Benn and Meacher yet they thought he would be a remainer? You wot? Can't they research 1973 and have a look at the no Common Market Labourites then? Thinking about it though, bringing back Barbara Castle might be a good thing.

There will not be a 'no deal' and. to be frank, there has never been much chance of it. May is a remainer and apart from a few ERG boneheads the Commons is full of like-minded remainers or those who want to implement Brexit with least economic damage. The ERG and associated knuckle-draggers are massively out-numbered and have no chance. They blew their chance to vote for May's deal and are now a complete irrelevance. In fact Farage said he wanted no Brexit in preference to May's deal so technically even Farage and his party of neanderthals lean away from a no deal Brexit.

My interest about the German deal is why we have had no update form the CEO yet. He clearly stated in December 2018 that there would be news in the 'new year'. Technically, of course, it is the 'new year' right up until 31/12/19, but even the most loyal of McGregor supporter must be thinking they have had the wool pulled over their eyes - March is hardly the 'new year'.

It is looking as though the Anglia Water and German deals were only announced to get the sp up ready for the placing. I bet you that many of those who took up their shares at 7p (don't forget PIs were not allowed to) are regretting it now.

This share price has fallen 81% in the last 24 months and 56% in the last 12 months. This 0.01p rise is nothing and looks like a big percentage only because the share price has fallen so much in recent years.
If this 0.01p rise (time of writing) happened one year ago when the sp was 0.24p, it would have only be a 4.2% rise. If it had happened two years ago when the sp was 0.56p it would only be a 1.8% rise. So it is nothing to all those LTHs who bought years ago.

I recommend putting your money into cryogenics if you want to be around when this thing does anything of note. In the meantime we might be rewarded by the pleasure of one of the CEOs company update stand-up routines. That is so long as it doesn’t get pulled off-line a few hours later after airing like that last one.

I only get in Lloyds when the politics says it has been massively oversold - lovely times after the Brexit vote - yum yum. Not quite so good in recent weeks but when no deal is officially removed this will be bak to the late 60s early 70s - yum yum.

It was never really on the table and I am surprised people think it was.

She is a remainer trying to look hard to her ERG vegetables. The rest of the Commons are at the least against a no deal Brexit. A no deal Brexit had no chance. Rees-Mogg and associated bone-heads blew it - they should have taken May's deal when they could.
