Well, you lot probably wont agree with me but I think its a very good thing that the sale of the old Vanquish design fell through. This is a quality brand, not a mass producer, and in many ways the value of that brand depends upon the image of their older models. Would Vanquish owners really appreciate cheap replicas being churned out of Chinese sweatshops? Knowing that had happened would they rush to buy the current AM to see it happen again in a few years? It was ok for BL (remember them??) selling the old Maestro and Montego designs to Bulgaria and India (from memory) but those mass produced cars image was by then unimportant. With AM image is 1st, 2nd and 3rd and is hugely significant in the 'Goodwill' element of the companys valuation. Just an honest opinion. Good luck to all

For what its worth I think this has a Eurotunnel style equity holders shafting written all over it, and has had for some time. The debt burden is huge, development costs constantly escalating and eventual revenue delayed. The debt holders will probably end up owning the company and eventually re float as a nice profitable company to a new bunch of equity holders who haven't been through these years of angst. Sincerely I am not trying to p*ss anyone off but, as a non holder who has looked at this many times over the past couple of years to see what all the excitement was, that is the conclusion I have reached. Just keep you eyes open and be objective when you consider piling more and more money in.

As an outsider to all this he currently seems to have turned from someone with a Midas touch to the exact opposite. Everything he touches turns to....er…...poo. Monday will have no effect on me I'm afraid, the SP could become 10p and I wouldn't touch it, because I can see no logical basis to value this mess.

I have taken advantage of this dip to top up to a nice round number, and now I am confident that I will actually stop! Still believe that AAU is underpinned at this level by fundamentals which I cant see can change except POG/POS. I suppose there is also a potential of political risk though not on the scale of Africa. The story could be drawn out from here unless there are 'bonanza' discoveries at Salinbas/Ardala, but great cashflow from when the Kiziltepe loan is repaid onwards - next April? it was certainly a bad week for Aston Martin and (potentially) Sports Direct (we wont know till Monday) - they delayed their results yesterday until after the market actually closed!

So apart from the Belgian tax demand and HoF being a basket case all is good.
I don't understand this tax thing. Erics corner shop may well justifiably not have a good understanding of tax, but a company the size of Sports Direct possibly has its own tax department, or if not will take advice from professionals (probably the big four) about managing their tax liability. I can understand a relatively small claim, say for sake of argument £20m but how the **** do you get it wrong by £600m? Yes they will appeal, no they wont pay immediately (is very unlikely they are able to) but the trouble is that if you don't and the claim is upheld the interest applied is penal (it is in the UK) - forget your bank base rate, it is many percent.
Very naughty to try to hide it away, as if it wasn't going to be noticed.

Its a bit off topic to talk about the cost of used Aston Martin cars themselves but is interesting. Anyway, its allowed at the weekend! There is a bit of a dichotomy with AM cars in the classic world. 'Proper' Astons from the DB series and the slightly later V8s/Virages have a certain cache and are stupidly expensive - mind you they were a) proper hand built products with relatively little outsourced content and b) they were cheap for years and the numbers depleted sharply due to impoverished latter owners running them into the ground and scrapping them. DB7 onwards the second hand values are nothing remarkable at all, except for special editions and low production examples - compare that to Ferrari where all but the most ill conceived (Mondial, 348) fetched silly money.

AIM is an odd market and seems prone to manipulation (I am not suggesting that AAU is being manipulated by the way). A few weeks I sold some shares in Rambler Mining, a copper mining outfit in Newfoundland. For years it had been struggling and (luckily) I noticed its SP triple one day. Up like a rocket. Nothing obvious, no RNS, seemed random. Obviously it occurred that it was inside information and something dramatic would be announced the next day. But, being fed up of holding them, I just thought 'sod it' and sold. I thought I might be making a huge error by selling but no announcement ever came and (nearly 3 months later) it is now as low as it was before the price went up. Obviously that worked well for me, but not so well for whoever bought my shares.

Goodluck with this one, Mr Ashley is undoubtedly able but treats SD as his personal fiefdom with contempt for pretty much anyone elses opinions. Worse, he appears to have lost his golden touch - why does he think he is the only person not affected by the change in retail habits?

Although I have expressed thoughts here recently (and in fairness I am a past shareholder), I don't profess to be up to speed on FOX - this is just a co I keep an eye on. However my advice to holders, from what I read, is take note of eshaiten - he clearly had skin in the game, is well read and has reached apparently valid opinion (at least for the short term). Who knows Pokerchips! Am tempted to have a little flutter at the moment just for the craic, but with the sort of money I am prepared to waive bye bye to. I haven't a clue which way this will go but |I am sure of one thing, Aston Martin will continue I one form or other as its too big a brand to disappear. I don't much like their offerings these days, they seem to want to compete with the already crowded supercar segment where their niche used to be bespoke gentlemens carriages along the lines of Bristol, Jensen and the more sporting traditional Bentleys. Palmer seems overated, can see him as a casualty of this. Despite assured survival that doesn't mean current equity holders are impervious to being wiped out - even Debenhams and Patisserie Valerie continue despite leaving shareholders with empty pockets.

Sadly no surprise here. When the IPO happened I had a mate working as a contract programmer at Gaydon. He loved it there but couldn't wait to leave as he was on the lowest rate he had been on for 10 years. He was employed as a COBOL programmer - state of the art cars, not state of the art IT! He asked my opinion on buying shares, I had a quick look (particularly vs Ferrari as mentioned by another poster) and came to the conclusion it was heavily overpriced. I suggested that if he really wanted some he should 'let it settle' as then it would reach a more rational price. He bought me a beer tonight! To me the latest cars have lost their dignity with horrible gaping mouths (I am a car enthusiast too), and wheras in the old days they made their own engines etc. now all they do is import kit and bolt it together. Add that to the fact that AM has gone bust as many times as Lamborghini if not more and you will see why I would advise the application of a bargepole

Well back from the pub where I had 3 pints of Neepsend 'Beryl' . Yes seriously, Beryl. 4.3%. Very nice too.
Caught up with posts since I've been out, and saw ADs on 'Health and Efficiency'. What warm memories that invoked. I was about 10, and our neighbour 'one eyed' Cyril Kirkby (who had a drive full of Jaguar Mk V11, V111 and 1X s) gave me a stack of 'Motor' and 'Autocar' magazines as i was car mad. Well as you can guess, in the middle of the stack was a copy of H&E. I remember it as sepia rather than black and white, though it may just have been handled quite a bit. Made quite an impression on a young chap, as you can probably imagine.

I genuinely hope this works out for you. I held for years and years. Had up to £50k invested at times, and did all the averaging down. Believed George Ogilvie, Norm etc, celebrated when production started, talk of the lower footwall etc etc.
Just try to be hard hearted, some of the best advice I was ever given was invest like a fund manager, not a private investor - in other words make decisions with your head, not your heart.
