RE: The Euro and Italy2 Oct 2018 15:56
If Italy had stayed out of the EURO would they be better off now? No chance. If the only economic policy of your country is to devalue your currency then the result can ending up in a spiral like Venezuela (extreme example but that can happen) . Its not all about the black ecomomey either. Cash in the black will eventually make its way back into circulation unless every person and business runs a second book. If you sell an item or get paid in cash and then do the shopping with it well it's back visible again. The problem, like in plenty of countries is lack of investment in infrastructure, education, business and so on.
Trump is a despicable human but on trade and China he is right. For the last 15 or so years China has soaked the cash out of most of the Western world and used it to rebuild their country at the expense of their trading partners. The US has been the big looser. When an American buys a TV in walmart on the cheap, the bulk of the cost heads straight to China. They end up with dollars to build China while the US (Italy) loose out. Here's a startling fact. Over 3 years 2010,11 12 China produced more concrete than the USA did over ALL of the 20th Century. That leads into a new issues that China now faces because it's not just concrete, its steel, its Aluminum and so much more. The question for them is What do you do with all that capacity now? Answer so far is print more money and build cities no one needs. result...BUST.
