I’ve got a similar viewpoint in that if the yield ‘looks’ too high on an income-focused fund, then the only two outcomes are a dividend cut(which is contrary to their stated policy) or a SP rise……so taking on board all the risks because all shares are risk to varying degrees I’ve added on what I believe to be a ‘dip’. GLA

Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith that these people know their business and have more longevity than most so I’m not particularly worried about this ‘dip’ because when all said and done they’re a diversified fund across sectors and a surprisingly wide geographical region. Patience and shuffle the cards as and when. GLA

Also a longtermer and have been adding recently on weakness in the SP. My broker has explained to me recently that they do some kind of options/currency trading as well and it went right over my head but the stuff they do adds income which might answer your question. My view is cracking quarterly yield and I’ve seen them lower but proportionally higher which is why I’m adding. China cracking down on regulation etc has spooked things and overdone the falls which have knocked this price disproportionately IMO because markets always over react and a longer view(hopefully!) will pay more than divs adding on this weakness!!

I think companies that innovate around changes,preferably ahead of them,will prosper and I’ve always thought this company is one of them. Hard to sit on a paper loss with no divvy but as a recovery I’m taking a long view.
Picked up an interesting quote off the Internet on EV’s which kind of makes sense :-

I guess the negative sentiment pervading on oil today doesn’t help but with all the leakproof and safety equipment they’ve got hopefully the tide will turn as clearly oil and gas are going to be around for a long time and making it a ‘greener’ extraction should be right on the money?

Good to see some positive news on this one,been holding a long time so well underwater but this combined with their new ‘green’ credentials helps keep the faith and hopefully up over the radar at some point….GLA.

Writing a book hmmm, I think I’d rather carry on growing trees mate lol. I don’t think there’s an imminent crash but at the same time the overlooked factor is always supply/demand and aside from cheap money the main factor propping up the resi market here currently remains lack of available stock.

Even if mortgage valuers chip a bit off, the positive sentiment mainly surrounding supply of ‘stock’ won’t make a dent as agents have other buyers waiting in the wings and shortfalls normally get covered with contingencies. It’s a bit like shares at times with the herd mentality!

The only time I’ve ever seen property really nose-dive was early nineties when they were knocking out ‘repos’ at auction on the cheap which dragged everything else down but they never halved and did recover over time whereas if you look at big caps like hsbc,Bp,bats etc by comparison and smooth over the Covid extremes they’ve all halved from what they were five years ago…still! When I started in agency a typical modern 3 bed semi was 25k and when I retired from it 250k so I guess that’s a good longterm hold lol.

There’s always some number which will influence the direction of flow but the difference with residential property is that it’s an essential investment as we all have to live somewhere and it’s very subjective and people will find a way to buy whatever the interest rates are it they want to buy. We might look at a share price and feel we ‘have’ to buy at the price it is but only because we’ve convinced ourselves there’s a good chance it’ll go up whereas property there’s always an assumption it’ll go up in value over a longer period irrespective of whatever interest rates etc are doing.

I remember the phones stopped ringing when dual miras ended September’88 and what followed. This time there’s a supply disconnect which is propping it up along with cheap credit. Normally with any boom there’s at least a dip whether it’s property or the price of bananas and when folks start banging on about how much something has gone up it normally reverses,this time who knows mate…just wish a few of my laggard shares would go up lol!!

Difficult to predict but as we leave the copses to do their own thing except bringing in a few apples I guess there’ll be more wildlife as they seem to create their own ecosystem. I saw a link somewhere about an old army base that was left ‘wild’ for sixty years and all trees now.
A bit like shares,imagine (having the mixed bags that so many of us do) if we just left it what would happen in ten years! Mind you I try not to reflect too much on things that I had for pennies that became pounds….Taylor wimpey in the financial crash a stand out for me,or William hill in this latest one!

Loads to do to keep on top of it particularly clearing out ragwort as soon as I see it and stopping the brambles getting out of hand. I’ve noticed a few small grass snakes this year, the three foot one I thought was a stray branch was a bit of a shock when it started moving….thankfully away from me!!
It does feel a bit sideways but that’s good balance maybe.
Settled in but don’t spend much time there this time of year except when helping mum with stuff.
All the usual frustrations with shares of selling too quick,buying too early and at times wishing I’d never bought at all apply but with diversity in sectors and companies it kind of evens out. My wildlife pond is full of young frogs and toads now….plus the ones we rescued from the stables next door(and the poor bugger the hens found,although I doubt he survived…vicious they are!!).

Trees doing well and wildlife enjoying the summer. Strimmed around Wassatt’s bit yesterday and always think of how cheery he was on here. How’s the pond Troj?

Not to mention the monthly yield which irons out the exdiv drops somewhat. Held these pre-pandemic over a quid, added massively during and now in recovery mode and today’s news shows they are mindful of the discount to nav and buybacks are a big topic but in this case I’d say they are seeing the value in buying back stock as like us they think it’s too cheap. SREI by comparison was very actively buying back and it did eventually get the SP back up which makes me think it’s a good idea.
The graph fwiw shows a huge recovery from the banking crisis and I’m thinking as and when normality returns those London assets particularly will bear fruit and those of us adding and holding now onwards will also receive a cracking income relative to risk,not to mention the .35pps was .5pps monthly not so long ago! Several but only have kept because I just like having them and giving up a license these days you’d have trouble getting one without good reason IMO. Wouldn’t hesitate to put an animal out of its misery if it can’t be saved like a rabbit dying of myxy and although I understand the concept of ‘game conservancy’ I don’t like killing anything so choose not to. Years ago we had a fox kill all the birds in a fifty bird shed that dug under and in at night and it’s difficult to understand why they do that so my way of avoiding that happening was a bit over the top but actually built over a concrete foundation in their night pen,you’ve got to balance freedom with safety with hens and I’m one who believes any form of battery-type poultry is immoral and unnecessary when a bit more effort and expense will give them a better life.

Their inner pen is totally enclosed so foxes can’t do their thing but the outer pen wouldn’t work and clipping the flight feathers is like trimming toes nails but everyone has different opinions on it I guess...as they do on foxes which I deter rather than shoot. Good luck with saga, had them last year on recovery and made a few quid eventually,hope they work out for you mate. I’m more focused on trading into income stocks these days...apart from the ones I’m still stuck with lol. Greggs I haven’t had for yonks. Good luck with both mate.
Troj they certainly can be destructive in the veg plots for sure but they’ve got good outside areas (albeit enclosed) to grub around in.

There wouldn’t have been any hens either if she’d got hold of them lol. Definately free range,extended their pen over some soil heaps and under some trees,they love it digging around etc.

Looking at a few options as fed up with digging holes etc with my bulldog spade for sure mate! Just had to extend the chicken run and put extra fencing in to keep Rosie away from their perimeter and put some high level wire up as despite wing-clipping they’re becoming adventurous and that’s not a good combo with a Jack Russell on patrol!!
