If we accept the fact that all shares are risk,surely a diversified fund such as this on a dip with this dividend history is a long way up the food chain and the fact that they do options trading etc over and above and in their own words have cash/reserves and report transparently negates the downside implied….or have I missed something fundamental here, as in I don’t see the problem?

Easier to bounce back from nothing with all debts written off whereas we lost our empire,ownership of businesses stateside and paid the price for winning the war for decades!

Too early to tell mate, still think it’s better we can do trade deals etc without kowtowing to the French or Germans who haven’t exactly been on our side of things and maybe a bridge between the old world and new world is our place IMO!!

Hope everyone doing okay? Had a few tweaks in my income stuff this week and rightly/wrongly took up rights in mc colls and the esken things which unfortunately lurk in the big mix at big discounts, nice turn on some wood group,added hunting and hfel(again!) and glad to see chesnara back over 3 quid along with Bp. All my biggest holdings are around 3 quid….I think it’s a throwback to the BBY days!

I think the point is that we all think the SP is currently on a big dip relative to the yield on offer and as previously stated if those of us who think the yield is covered going forwards, the SP will rise which is why I’ve been adding for sure. Just checked my account and see the latest div has been credited.
My fag packet calcs are that if the average yield is around 6%,being conservative the SP has the potential to rise against the multiple of where the yield is now as in over 7.5% which is surely between 10% and 20% on a yield metric alone? The constituent holdings are therefore on a ‘dip’ too as the SP is correlated to the daily nav movements.
In other words I see the current dip as an opportunity to add quality at a discount over and above my normal percentage parameters within my income portfolio.
We all accept risk otherwise wouldn’t own any shares but mitigation and comfort levels move around the prices we can add/reduce at….well they do for me anyway. GLA

Worth remembering they make money from options trading and presumably add/reduce holdings when appropriate too which builds up reserves?
Had these in varying quantities since 2014 initially at 314 and some higher,some lower so at the conservative end I’d estimate a return of c.7% over 7 years and ignoring the current sub 3 quid blip id say that’s a reasonable return on my investment because I don’t remember any dividends being skipped over this period?
To achieve a higher yield overall I’ve added on weakness and skimmed a few off over and above my core holding and fwiw my parameters are 320-360 over this period so it’s definitely in the add zone for me! GLA

It would be quite handy if they brought back cassette tapes and players in cars so I could listen to music again mate, as you can imagine all of these sd cards or sticks or whatever they are of of absolutely no use to me!!

Amazon to open department stores in US - report
Amazon is planning to open several large retail stores in the United States, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday citing people familiar with the matter.

Similar to department stores, the stores will reportedly sell a variety of items, including clothing, household items and electronics. The first large Amazon stores are set to be located in California and Ohio and will take up around 30,000 square feet.

However, the sources noted the plans for such department stores are yet to be finalized.

Interesting how even a vaguely boring share attracts attention when it rises or falls a lot over a short period. Had these fit decades in varying quantities and rather than over analysing the drop I just put it down to the fact I’ve been adding like mad and as my contribution to fellow holders I’m not buying any more because I’m beginning to think it’s my fault lol.
On a serious note we all know shares fluctuate for a myriad of reasons and since a trust is what a friend of mine once described as a ‘bucket of different shares’ I’m guessing we’ve just got caught up in China sentiment, delta etc etc and at some point they’ll stop drifting down and reverse direction because that’s what shares do…IMO/GLA

Not a good place to be for educated women for sure! Strange old world and I guess we all make the mistake in assuming everyone in the world wants to live in a western democracy when the reality is power is still through the barrel of a gun and countries like that are ungovernable by our metrics?

Nothing new there then mate, ‘cannon fodder’ used to be the term I think. Rapidly moving target and the Taliban have got the wind behind them on this offensive. I read one of the George MacDonald Fraser’s books on the Afghan War a while back, one of the Flashman adventures which is surprisingly informative with historical notes and references throughout.

Crikey it’s a fast moving one over there,just seen the news that the president’s done a runner to a neighbour’s ‘Stan’! The worst thing about it is the blame game when a lot of people are genuinely scared to death and anyone bereaved or disfigured from our involvement in it must be going through hell.

Anything would be better than this outcome and all it’s caused. Just don’t get why we can’t learn the lessons of history!

Morning all,hope everyone had a good week,usual seesaw on mine overall. . Feeling autumnal all of a sudden first thing up at the land where we stayed over last night but there’s worse problems to have!
Terrible situation in Afghanistan which is starting to look like the fall of Saigon if you ask me except with this one we lapdogged the yanks in and didn’t heed the lessons from the mid-1800’s.
