Cheers Gerry, it certainly looks interesting as a variation on the hfel theme with more emphasis on growth(recovery!) and a whopping discount to nav. The ever grand thing is a strange one proving the old saying if you owe a small amount to the banks,they own you, but if you owe a large amount it’s a different story all together!

I guess since most construction etc starts with iron ore it’ll recover unless they’re going to build with wood or plastic!
Actually bought a few ‘Broken Hill’ yesterday as a separate small holding and they bounced a bit today which I guess in the short term would read through.
Any views on JAGI which I’ve just dipped my toe in,yield shows 4.6% but lower on lse,looks like a similar one to this?

Nor me mate,leave them to it and Mother Nature sorts it out, we’ll be planting out some more fruit trees soon and I’ll chicken wire round them/containment easier on the conscience……mind you I was strimming off some nettles the other day and someone commented about ‘destroying natural habitat’ which I thought was a bit rich from someone who uses weedkiller and recently chopped a healthy mature oak tree down because of the leaves…some people!

Yes they’re all over the place, we lifted some pallets today for a shelving ‘creation’ I’m working on and they were all over the place!
HFEL diversified fund clue in the name, caught up in a downtrend and cracking income buy when a lot of the investment trusts look toppy IMO!

Good points raised. I think the best thing I ever learned from shares was to stop looking to make a killing on something and aim for slow and steady and diversified income and trusts play a big part in that!
I’m a sucker for divs and it’s a good point zac as my philosophy has always been that if I buy with a good yield to start off with then it won’t ‘hurt’ as much if there’s an income stream when fir whatever reason you get stuck with something lol.
I added more poly metal fir the last div and am also wondering how much that 33pps or whatever it is has cost me lol

HFEL currently my biggest holding and have held consistently since 2014 with an initial purchase price of 314 and from what I recall the SP has normally been well into the threes except during the Covid crash and prior to that in the ‘08 fiasco!
Aside from that my next biggest holdings are NCYF,BP,both the tobaccos with the common denominator being quarterly divs and other than that the usual stuff we're probably all lumbered with like VOD etc!

Diversity plus quarterly divs iron out some of the nasty ex div days drops too!
Ones I hold and like are ASEI,ALAI and HDIV. The next energy ones I’ve got too along with foresight solar and recently added GLO and looking at GSF but haven’t got round to it yet. For frequency of divs also the property reits are worth a look if you’re not holding as they’re quarterly mostly. BREI(ex today) and if you’re feeling adventurous the Raven property prefs(RAVP) pay 3pp quarter and below nav and also paid out through the pandemic. BCPT very london-centric and actually pays monthly along with EPIC which is a bit like an RGL paying monthly not quarterly(which I also hold). Commodities BERI that used to be blackrock commodities income only a penny a quarter but an easy way into that sector.

Bananaman, is that an annual ISA charge for the nominee account on the value of holdings? I pay a fixed amount on mine but don’t think it’s that high.
I know charges of 1-2% often apply to managed discretionary funds but assume you’re execution only like most of us.
I’ll be glad when these are strongly back over 3 quid as it’ll stop me adding lol.

Gerry,it’s in the buy zone for future divs for sure! Added(again) today and buy showed as sell lol!!
The Z score thing is way over my pay grade but I think it’s on premium/discount to nav on SP so probably doesn’t work?!

It’s definitely a good income-adding opportunity at these levels and since they carried on paying through the depths of Covid that shows the ‘income’ part of the name shone through when there were plenty of my holdings that dumped the divvy on the first cough!!
SP-wise the graph displays plenty of zigzagging around here to the high 3’s over the years if we disregard the extremes during Covid and the banking crisis so I guess once some of the underlying holdings get back up we’ll be kicking ourselves for not buying even more during this time!!

Hi Zac, I’m hoping it goes a bit more than 310 within 12 months lol. Good point on overall percentage though. Paper losses never good viewing but with a cracking quarterly yield it makes it more palatable…sort of!!

Maybe we’re over-thinking it, share prices,sectors,regions etc all creates fluctuation. I’m not particularly worried but more curious because I’ve loaded up more than I’ve ever held before on these!
There’s a wide geographical area they cover and I guess if the SP was the normal 330-350 there wouldn’t be much to discuss?!!

I’ve got them in an ISA as well as the main account.
Last year they went ex beginning of October and the finals were the beginning of November. I must admit I haven’t paid that much attention to them in the past but with this recent dip and what feels like constant adding I’m even checking the live price on google finance periodically!!

Interesting day,shuffled around and increased overall yield to more than pay for the tax increase….or was it my excuse to move a few things around maybe.Add/reduce keeps the interest somewhat. Added to one where there’s never been any posts too lol.
