I've just had a browse at the GSK buybacks/transaction in own shares rns,nothing ambiguous there,number of shares bought,price paid,for cancelation,period......interesting

Well spotted and I'll ask my broker tomorrow and report back. In theory,buybacks equals a kind of reverse-dilution,less shares in issue(unlike just about every aim share I hold!!) but if it doesn't state they are for cancelation,one can only assume they are being held in stasis for reissue or maybe employee incentives? I have shares in bae systems,vod and azn who are all at it but seem to word it differently. Do far as the current SP goes,it's not long after the recent ex,the IC recently put a sell on it(buy signal?!),a bit unloved....in other words I've no idea but happy to hold alongside CW though heavier in them mainly as they've got the yield edge for me and the sporadic takeover thing.

Kennie,whether in a sipp,nominee or on certificates,you will be entitled to the div if you hold beyond the ex-d/record date either as a cash payment or you can make arrangements via your broker/sipp provider to go for scrip dividends which are basically more shares in lieu of a cash payment calculated as a mean value over a few days including the ex-div day which generally experiences a drop of roughly the amount of the div to be paid(not always but generally). UT,came back to you on the "other cable" earlier. Oldtimer,i concur with your optimism!!! GLA

Yes mate,glad to see positives here today,a wee breather on the SP before the next leg GLA!! On cosalt,one of many i hold priced to fail but the chance is that they survive and prosper,fingers crossed.

Should be a good average in good time mate,if it takes a while,hopefully bag a few divs along the way. Havent traded anything today but thats a rarity! Jo on bby was going on about pace,good luck with them. I,m pretty swamped with good yielders these days plus loads of smaller holdings in all manner of things,some up/some down,you know how it is. Have big positions in lloyds(yes i know....),cw,tcg to name a few and tni worth keeping an eye(under 50 buy but not massively liquid over 10k in my experience),the cables are like banks,you could buy/sell hundreds of thousands without going neg.trade(if only lol!). Still holding the optare but think that,ll be a long wait. My top 3 shares are ng/mars and rsl currently but dont tend to sell the big yielders. CW results out 24th of may plus theres some t/o talk which got them back over 50,might be worth keeping an eye as i reckon they,ll go up a few if they reconfirm the div(or plummet if they dont!)....we know the risks!!!

Creeping up nicely mate,my average not as low as yours but in profit now and holding. Have had a tendancy to "sell too quick" in the past and regret later,i dont do that anymore but will slice in doubles if/when!!! GLA

Glad you had a good trip mate,on these i think they,re rock bottom now,heaps of volume today,looking like a longterm hold i fear but who knows,theres been a long drop from 60-odd so wishfully-thinking theres got to be some upside,plus i cant recall seeing such a string of directors buys over the last few months having little or no effect on the SP. Aside from my usual grids,vod,tcg,cw...i could go on,these are a reasonably chunky one but have them in my sipp mostly so have a few years before i need fret(e it doesnt take that long mind you!!!). I,ve never been convinced of the sell in may thing as its so often about individual stocks and their individual issues,but hey,what do i know?! Catch up soon mate...

Not really bothered about them mate,as long as they pay the divs and dont go bust,they,ll just sit there,always been a twitchy one on SP,they,ll hopefully come back at some point. On these its facing the right way for us lot,just checked with the broker and he reckons you can only buy 10/15 and they,re bidding for 250k!!! GLA

Morning bud,yes i have a few thorntons,just a yielder for me,mind you if they keep issuing profit warnings,its starting to look a bit like a recovery one!!! Still here,cosalt too,topped up on helphire the other day on the big drop too....so many shares in so many companies!!! How are you doing?

Dont worry mate,i wont chuck the kitchen sink at them,just monitor it a bit i reckon. The ones a couple of years back were IPF,we did okay on them but they,re well up now from those levels.

Cheers mate,just had a quick scan of it. See where they open up monday and decide whether to average down from current which is about 37 from memory or just forget about them and hope they,ll recover over time,these things generally do! Remember those inter personal finance things we had at about 80p a couple of years back(you me and jellyboy got to know each other in them),just saw them tipped in this weeks IC at just under 4 quid....should have kept everything i bought in late 2008/early 2009!!!

Dont know mate,doesnt seem that bad on the face of it,maybe got overdone on the initial reaction and didnt have time to "re-adjust" ....he says wishfully thinking!!!
