As you say views influenced by any other bias than purely a wish to find out what is the best strategy to combat Covid 19 should best be kept to themselves.
Equally the interpretation that anyone’s views who makes comment are opposed purely on the basis of an assumed political bias are just as unwelcome.
Yes these are very complex matters and fast moving events and evidence and knowledge changes all the tine.
Yes we know the scientific community will never all have the same views and there are legitimate questions to be asked but maybe not now.
There will be plenty of time afterwards for analysis and comment but ATM the prime objective should be to fight the virus.
The needs of the front line staff are paramount and yes there do seem to be supply issues if POE and availability of tests..
But let us leave it in the hands of the “ experts” to sort it out.

The important bit of any diagnostic test is the higher the degree of specificity and sensitivity then the more accurate the test.
This is important for reducing numbers of false positives and false negatives.
As affirmer technology does this then this is important in development of any test whether PCR or serological based.

This approach is very similar to the ORPH challenge study which uses OC43 and 229E antigenic strains which are common Covid related strains but much less virulent.

Consider the great progress towards a universal flu vaccine so necessary as flu virus,s evolve and change every year so the ability to have one Vaccine which does not require predicting which antigenic field strains will be circulating is a real “ holy grail” search for big pharma.
The search for a Covid 19 Vaccine is even more important given today’s challenge.So the expertise and experience within ORPH is a great background in the race for this Vaccine.It is not about a universal Vaccine but just one that will take care of current L and S strains but understanding the process of how immunity develops to these RNA virus,s is critical and in particular developers of mRNA Vaccines I am sure likely to be very interested in the outcome of the current trials.

Yep do not underestimate how this approach to a Covid 19 Vax is.They use Covid 19 related antigens and assess response as it is too dangerous to go in with L or S strains except in a killed/ modified Vaccine and that takes extra time as you have to look at adjuvants etc.Does anyone know if they are using live antigenic strains in the trial.Having these facilities is fantastic in this fight and experience,expertise and resources is huge as key to coming up with a safe Covid 19 Vax is to minimise viral shedding and prevent replication

Post recommended as you will know far more about the real situation on the front line.
Really important that everyone tries their hardest to support the incredibly brave and conscientious NHS staff efforts in winning this battle.
In these times everything else is unimportant apart from staying safe for ourselves our family/ friends and wider society.
Obviously it is important to learn lessons for the future but now is not the time imo for recriminations as our sole focus should be on fighting this disease.

Soon be swamped by millions of Mothers Day posts.
