Target S protein

Sorry Inanaco I hate to say it but just checked and you are correct it only appears to target the as protein.
I had presumed which was my mistake as the Vaccine I sell uses the same vector technology as the Oxford one and that targets both the nucleor protein as well as the outer glycolic protein.
So always willing to acknowledge when wrong.

I think the ChAD approach by Oxford targets the N nucleor protein as well as the S spike.
But as Inanaco says it is more complex and the SCLP approach targets different mechanisms which are likely to increase the stretch and length of immune response.
Final word to Jonathan Ball who reminds us all these are “ candidate vaccines” with no dead certainties of success with any approach.

A few musings.
Follow Jonathan Balls tweets and you will see how cautious he is about the prospects of any Vaccine candidate including here and certainly the Oxford ChAD one and although he is much more familiar with the one here he has more early results on others to judge.
In particular the levels of viral shedding in treated and untreated groups of the ChAD approach in pre clinical work.
So the govt has thrown an awful lot of money in support of the race to be first with a safe and effective Covid 19 Vax and there will never be a better time to raise funds for this work.
I do think the SCLP approach can offer tremendous benefits re strength and length of immune response as compared to others.However it is essential to get funding and that is why the implied Mirror article was so important.
We cannot just wait until the others may or may not fail or not be as effective before the govt looks to support alternative approaches.
However I am confident that the recent publicity will raise the awareness of the SCLP approach and if the govt and / or commercial/ charitable outfits fail to provide the necessary support then I think that is more worrying as that will certainly not validate the approach which to my non expert view looks to offer great potential.
There is clearly a seller at work here and I just hope the BoD do release some positive news as the background for progressing this will never be better imo

The development of a Vaccine will make little difference to requirement for millions of tests for a considerable time to come.
That is if they work.Even the ChAd Oxford Virus did nit test that well in ore clinical studies.The amount of viral,shedding was the same in the noses of treated and no treated monkeys.
So if upper respiratory tract does not show a difference what do you think likely for lower respiratory tract.
What about mutations and it looks like multiple injections will be required given likely short duration of immunity.
So lots of need for tests.

Some interesting posts on Vax and yes the govt has announced a major spend increase in todays briefing essentially on the two most advanced the Oxford ( chimp adenovirus) and the Imperial one.
Despite the 80% optimism of Sarah Gilbert it is not sure how effective or safe the Oxford one will be.
Yes the humoral and cell mediated response will target both the S spike protein and the N nucleor protein but it not only has to prove safety and efficacy.
Some early results pre clinically have shown some promise but also has not reduced viral shedding by what ideally would be wanted in a Vax.
What if the virus mutates which is quite possible and more importantly how long will the immunity last.
Several virologists have indicated that immunity may be short lived so may require multiple injections possibly 2 as will the Moderna mRNA effort.
Yes there Companys working on second generation Vax which are using a different approach utilising high avidity T cell responses but these are scheduled for 2021.
My main point is even if the Vax work which is far from certain there will always be a great place for AVCT and it’s tests plus all the other fantastic work in oncology and the other possibility’s which affimers will bring.
If it takes even longer for a Vax to work and if the batches they make in anticipation fail batch testing in any way the whole lot will be scrapped abd it will take another 6 months to brew another batch.

Happy to do that but just like more verification of some of Mirror detail before casting net wider.
Having seen twitter going into overdrive on many Covid 19 shares with a lot less coverage and validity than we have seen today I know that this SCLP message will have a limited noise Level.
However without some “ validation” of the article by SCLP I am not prepared to push it as hard as I could as this news if true is so significant.

Mirror article is a stand alone one involving SCLP albeit on a Covid Vaccine spread.The ST article is a mention of SCLP as part of a bigger Vax article so Mirror one is a more personal and not generic one maybe just lifted from other sources.Also has image of LD next to article.

Ray - agree more likely to be nano rather than electroporation.
I know a couple of other approaches will use electroporation but I just can’t see this approach being used as a widespread prophylactic given what we already know and the fact I don’t think the timeline fits in with that.
That in itself will be a real improvement and maybe worth contacting to find out more.

As always translation leaves it open to different interpretation.

I have now tweeted out the Mirror article and cc was absolutely correct in his post so a big thanks for him.
Please when we potentially have big news for SCLP which is presumably why we are all here can we all refrain from clogging up the board with making political points which are totally irrelevant imo

Crumbs if a leading pharma has agreed to manufacture that will cost 10s of millions of commitment.They are not going to do this either without a commercial agreement or as a very generous contribution to the world fight vs Covid 19.
The funding cost of producing the prototype Vax to test whether it is safe and effective to proceed to later trials and scale up is relatively small and sure their are plenty of organisations willing to provide it.
Again having a leading pharma Company agreeing to manu will be a huge help in this matter

Crumbs absolutely this is not like the govt saying to Dyson can you get your boffins to look at maybe manufacturing new ventilators and James Dyson saying we will look at it and then agree to manufacture them if we can.
More akin to BMW or Mercedes In a time of huge demand for their cars saying we will agree to repurpose or add new production facilities to manufacture a new experimental model Developed by a small niche motor car technology firm.
But want to make clear it is all about some official confirmation rather than just a bit if journalistic licence by the Daily Mirror.
Don’t get me wrong the SP will fly if that is what is written as it will be enough of a rumour but confirmation in any form by SCLP will be the real driver.
